Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Complete Season 1 [DVD] [1998] just arrived. Not quite sure how come I managed to get it for £10.93 when it’s now showing £14.99 but I did, so there you go.
We’ve had a lot of parcels recently. Today I also got a bunch of Winnie-ther-pooh badges free from Snapdragon – Jane was decluttering and just giving stuff away for free! She included a catalogue – her stuff is really gorgeous. I’m craving a notebook, though I can’t decide on a design at all!
Tim got new phones. This is hugely increasing his exercise levels as he goes up and down the stair ladder setting them up 😀 These handle VOIP and landline calls so we can handle calls for his business as well as for us.
Big has spent the morning writing a story. She had a mini meltdown last night when she remembered that she needs to write a story for Brownies that she then needs to perform (they are working on their performance badge apparently). I have no idea why this was such a traumatic idea, but it was, right up until suddenly it was a really exciting idea and she had to keep running in and out telling me how much she’d written. :rolls: Three pages in the end, plus pretty decorated cover attached with glittery thread.
Small did some problem solving on mathletics. Turns out that is how they learn the concepts and the techniques, but it doesn’t give them any points, so you can’t see what they’ve been up to. Seems a bit of a flaw in the system as it doesn’t persuade them to spend more time on it, they concentrate on doing the tests and so on but without having checked out how to do it. Hm. Might drop them a mail about that – although I suppose that from a school’s point of view they cover the concepts in the lessons and they just want the testing/ practice to make sure it’s all gone in.
They’ve both enjoyed learning about genetics courtesy of the university of Utah, picked up the link from fb I think, so thanks to whoever was sharing that.
Tuesday evening is of course swimming lessons, so we trundled down to the leisure centre as usual. Small’s teacher was not in evidence which caused some trauma, but the stand in was very lovely and won him round. Big’s class didn’t appear to be doing much in the way of swimming, and apparently her teacher keeps asking her to show the rest of the group how to do stuff as they don’t seem to understand him and she does. Hm. Saw an advert for Rookie Lifeguards on the way out and wonder whether that might be the way forward for her come September. Must remember to give the swimming coordinator a ring over the next couple of days.
Walking home Big started to talk to me about the fun swim session she goes to on a Monday. Most of the other girls wear bikinis apparently, and she wondered if she would look good in one. She can’t quite see why all the rest of them wear them, as most of them aren’t really equipped for it iyswim 😆 We have agreed that we will go and have a look for a bikini for her on Thursday, as it seems very possible to me that she’ll look very good in one. (Shriek!)
She’s also getting a crash course in group behaviour from the other girls – none of it terribly bad, but some of it a little difficult for her to understand. Still, given that we’re getting some really good talks out of it, I think it’s a pretty good way for her to learn some of what she’s missing by not going to school. Some of that socialisation, don’t you know? 😉
