History week, science week, maths week…just an everything week.

And it’s only Tuesday!

Maths courtesy of mathletics as usual – although I had a tough few minutes when Big was working on simplifying fractions, Small was doing mental times and Smallest wanted me to read a book. Multi-tasking mummy, that’s me. But we made it through, somehow, and Small’s nearly finished his week’s points today, while Big and I are doing some more work on division.

Big’s been doing lots of research on Tudors. We’re hoping to do Kentwell this year as re-enactors, so we’re researching the background, the year chosen, clothes, history, food and so on. This morning I got into a chat on twitter about drop spindles – I didn’t know there were different kinds – top whorl and presumably bottom 😉 I still haven’t tracked down which the Tudors used mind! Small got into the history mood as well by watching some program about Ancient Britain and the Bronze age, and now he’d like to go to Dartmoor to explore Bronze age settlements.

Science – got a great book through the post to review. Kinetic Contraptions: Build a Hovercraft, Airboat, and More with a Hobby Motor. All I have to do now is locate a hobby motor, whatever one of those is 😉 , and then we can get on with getting all scientific.

And as well as all of that, there’s been swimming – Small had his first session in the blue hat group today. Last week he did two thirds of a length twice in his half hour session in the green hats. This week he swam continuously in that same two thirds of the pool – lengths, then circuits. He did fabulously – and I expected him to be staggering when he got out, but instead he bounced all the way home too.

Turns out Smallest likes to walk. On Saturday she walked home from the park. On Sunday she walked home from the library. Neither is a short distance, and as she’s always been carried before this I didn’t expect her to be up to hiking about. How wrong can you be. Am hoping that if I can build more walking into our days, I might manage to build more sleeping into our nights. And given that she’s been in bed for an hour now, I’d better go catch up with her too 🙂
