grabbing an update while I can

let’s see – Small is occupying himself with a space book, started making a rocket last night. Going to have to rethink his computer usage – while it’s obvious to see that he’s learning stuff on there, his behaviour is terrible if he spends too much time attached to the screen, and he doesn’t self regulate for it at all. Once he’s forced off he becomes very productive and creative (well, most of the time. Right now he’s sulking, but that’s just one of those things). He did a fabulous drawing of the moon last night, and while doing it asked me endless questions about space and planets that I couldn’t answer, but I pointed out he had the space book handy!

Big seems a little more settled these past couple of days. She’s absolutely devouring Anne Frank’s diary – I hadn’t realised it’s such a hefty tome. She’s written a letter to her penpal and done some maths, so we’re back on an even keel there.

soa has been indulging in a growth spurt – she fed continuously yesterday from night to day, reducing me to tears at one point through sheer lack of sleep. She seems to have tired herself out now though, so as you can guess, I’m seizing the opportunity to blog. (I have already had breakfast and one cup of tea, the next one is cooling to drinkable temperature beside me.) Later today I’m going to pop out to buy expressing supplies so that I can start building up a little stock of freezer milk – Big is really looking forward to being able to give soa a bottle every now and then, and I have a long term plan which involves expressed milk at centerparcs so that I can have a spa session 🙂

  1. Good luck – i think i will try starting that earlier this time – with Maddy i mix fed perfectly well but Josie and Amelie i started trying bottles at 4 months and they point blank refused.

  2. suspect it may depend on the hunger level – Big had expressed milk bottles for nursery from 14 weeks, Small wouldn’t take a bottle, he was happy to wait but he often went 4 hours between feeds. Soa is an every hour or two child so am guessing she’ll go for it wherever it comes from!

  3. Hope the expressing goes OK – I really struggled to find the time with Mollusc but with Nudi feeding less regualarly it’s easier. Also, I have found that if I read about Badman/Balls/DCSF stuff and get really angry I can pump LOADS of milk in one go! Maybe it’ll work for you 😉 Hope you manage to get some better sleep tonight.

  4. I think it depends entirely on the child. We tried C early on bottles, and she was quite good with them, until the time came for me to actually go back to work, when she absolutely refused them until 8 months old. M, fortunately, was not so fussy, as I worked almost full time when she was a baby. And by the time Jasper came along, I didn’t have enough of a life left to ever need to give him a bottle.

  5. Sounds like you’re having a good day Jax (apart from lack of sleep!). I hope your plan comes together and you get some spa time.
