going north again

on Weds I took the children to Sainsbury’s and got all the bits that we needed for the wedding that we didn’t already have, apart from some black shoes for Small. As he was not in a cooperative mood, I wimped out of going into town town and came home, thinking that we would have time to pop into local town in the morning before we set off.

And that’s what we did – I walked into town with him on my own and he was wonderful – cooperative, thoughtful, chatty, so very different from the day before when I lost count of how many times I had to drag him out from under the clothes stands or ask him to leave the ladies underwear alone :rolls: And even better, we managed to get him shoes!

Then we loaded up into the car and set off up north. The wedding party was being held just up the road from offthepath so we’d organised to stop there Thurs and Fri nights rather than doing the hotel thing which also meant we’d get to catch up with friends around the family do.

The journey was the worst we’ve had for a while, for the first time ever Small needed the toilet en route, and didn’t actually tell us this until we were passing a cafe. He spent the next 20 minutes or so as we belted towards a services getting increasingly upset until he was actually wailing, which was distinctly less than pleasant for all of us, although I daresay that he suffered most. Hopefully now he understands why I try to get him to the toilet before we set off!

We had to do a second stop a couple of hours later after he’d eaten all the bag of fruit and drunk all his drink – the fruit was supplied to feed two children so it wasn’t that surprising that he needed to stop after he’d polished that lot off! All in all, I was very glad to arrive, even though it was typical summer weather 😉

Lovely to spend the evening and the following morning in the company of friends. And then it was wedding time.
