Going into business

Following lots of helpful comments on fb, here and via email (thanks all!) Big has ramped up her ideas about going into business for herself. She’s being a lot more pragmatic about it this time around, and we discussed market research, planning, pricing, avenues for selling and a whole lot more. I’m really impressed with how she’s approaching the whole thing, and even if she gives up on it all tomorrow, we’ve still got a lot out of it. And you never know, maybe those years of crafting will pay off after all.

Small has spent most of the day computing again. He is testing to the limits every aspect of personalisation (which reminds me of how he cracked me up yesterday, complaining that a window wouldn’t close down – it was the example window in the themes display ) to the extent that I couldn’t read the error message he’d got for the fancy font he’d chosen. Hohum. I’m sure that these will be useful skills eventually.

And soa? She’s cracked sitting up with no visible means of support. Now if she could crack sleeping more than 90 minutes at a time I’d be laughing. As it is I’m pretty much shattered constantly, so as she’s sleeping now, this would seem like time to head for bed.

  1. Hi Jax, Claire’s daughter at still raising the next generation did something similar (you prob know that…). Congrats to soa, Emily is sitting up too, clever girls ๐Ÿ™‚ good luck with the sleeping thing x

  2. I think it’s a wonderful thing to be able to “earn” money at a young age – such useful skills to learn and it seems to me that it helps bridge this artificial gap between adults and children and helps them feel part of the “real” world. And perhaps as you say she will get even more enjoyment out of the crafting at the same time. Great stuff!
… from one sleep deprived mum to another! Sympathies!

  4. We’ve been making candles in teacups too! Trawling round car boots and charity shops for cute/cheap cups and saucers and then filling with scented wax. They look great, maybe it should be a Wednesday activity?!?

  5. @alison @helen they do look very cute. And we have a plentiful supply of charity shops here! Sounds like it would be a great Weds activity ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Think Gwenny wants to make some ๐Ÿ™‚ Helen, could you send me an invite to your blog, if that’s not too forward? ๐Ÿ˜‰ (aliportico at gmail dot com)

  9. Just a thought – my mother in law has recently made me some fabulous changing mats which are much bigger than the norm with waterproof covered foam inside and then a loose fleece cover (and spare cover) which you can take off to wash. Much warmer, comfier, bigger and nicer than the wipe clean plastic ones. I thought they might be reasonably easy to make with a sewing machine and I can’t find anything like them on the internet. There may be a reason for that of course if no one else thinks they are as good as I do! I will try and take a picture if you are interested. Not to worry if not of course, just a thought!…
