New jeans, new books and political ponderings

This post has been sitting in draft in note form for a while – fleshing out what I can remember and posting it!

Tim made yorkshire puddings for tea, but misunderstood the secondhand recipe and made 4 times the quantity of batter. We had pancakes three days running – not a hardship, they may be my favourite food. 😀

Following the successful acquisition of one pair of jeans, took Big out into town round the charity shops to look for some more. First shop had two pairs labelled 146cm which she couldn’t get up around her midriff. Not that she’s at all plump, but she’s got some curves that your average 10 year old doesn’t have. So we tried another shop or two and found a lovely pair of Morgan jeans that were labelled age 12/13. Fitted beautifully, and very bargainous at just £3. When we got them home I investigated further and realised they are actually adult size 6 – obviously the way to go 🙂

Hm, note says tent deliberations, but I think I’ve already blogged those.

soa is desperate to sit up. If you put her down on the floor the head and feet come up as if she’s doing abdominal crunches! The baby nest is ideal, it gives the minimal support she needs when she is sitting and keeps her safe when she slumps. Really was a good find way back when at the flea market.

Big spent a day with her friend C, and Small wandered around like little lost boy missing his sister. He was so desperate to see her that he voluntarily walked down with Tim to pick her up, and apparently she wasn’t happy to see him 🙁

Small lost a tooth, tooth fairy is useless! Took her days to get around to paying him. Actually, I have it on good authority that she paid him some time before he noticed as he forgot to look after the second night with no joy 😳

Have been enjoying the beautiful skies without plane trails. Although we did have a spitfire enjoying them too 🙂

Took the second tent down. It has a small puncture on one door and the groundsheet is in a sorry state. Other than that it’s bearing up well, so I think we’re going to buy some extra groundsheet and go on using it.

Went out on Sunday aft to the Red Cross shop and boosted our resources again. They had a bogoff on books and clothes – didn’t want to buy jeans for Big without her to try them though. Bought 2 £1 kids bundles, A Short History of Nearly Everything and The Philosophy Files (which is illustrated by the son of the guy who made Bagpuss!) all for £2.50. I love the Red Cross. Bundles included Writing with DynaMo: Age 7-9 and Tables with DynaMo: Age 7-9 Bk. 1 both of which went down extremely well with both children, as well as a load of books on the human body which I’ll link to some other time.

But I’ve missed out Sunday morning. I’ve been following the election process closely, both nationally and locally, and have made contact with two of the big three’s PPCs on fb and twitter. Sunday I’d discovered our libdem was canvassing less than a mile away and hoped to go out and meet her, but realitically it wasn’t going to happen. Texted her to let her know, and she came here instead! Made her tea, Small showed off Venn diagrams, Big her general election lapbook and I waxed lyrical on home education. She immediately understood the difference between education and welfare and was very surprised to hear that libdems favour registration, pointing out without prompting that being registered doesn’t keep school kids safe. Sent her off into the sunshine promising to follow it up with the party leaders, so a good investment of half an hour I felt.

I’ve run out of notes, so time to hit publish 🙂
