I don’t remember the last time I bought a lottery ticket – we’re just not big gamblers here. (Not that a £2 on a lottery ticket is a particularly big splash out, but you know what I mean.)
I had seen a couple of adverts for the new Geolotto game though. I’m trying to think when – I don’t watch a lot of live TV, but we do record stuff, so I think it’s probably during Longmire or NCIS.
The premise is a bit different, and I admit I was intrigued. What you do is choose a place, or places, and then book them for either a subscription, in which case a sum of money will be charged to your payment method every so often, or you pay for a block of time, a week or 4 weeks. I was given £20 to review the site so I chose 4 places and a lucky dip and set them all up for 4 weeks. Then I just left it to it.
And this week, I got a winning email 🙂 I won a whole £5! That’s a lot better return than I’ve ever managed before, and I’ve still got a couple of weeks to go on my original places. Plus I got sent some more bonus cash from the system (I’m assuming they’re trying to make the site even more attractive) so I thought I’d extend the places I had a bit longer. I couldn’t work out how to do that though, and then when I booked new places in, it turned out it used my winnings before my bonus cash 🙁
The answer to that is probably to withdraw any winnings before you do any spending. So I hope that’s a useful tip for someone!
There are also instant games, and promotional activities. So last weekend there was an opportunity to win extra by buying your squares at one of three nominated locations. You get emails about this sort of thing to keep you updated.
I haven’t tried any instant win games, as they weren’t covered by the bonus cash. (Should have explored with my winnings shouldn’t I?) Top prize in the weekly draw is £1,000,000 which is enough to be going on with, and you’ve a 1 in 20 chance of winning. Tiers of prizes are set at £100,000, £10,000, £1,000, £25 and £5. Oh, and apparently, GeoLotto is a game of chance, not a lottery. No, I don’t know either.
All in all, the system is straightforward to use, apart from the minor thing about not being able to determine which cash is spent first. I’ve also discovered that you can’t withdraw under £10, so if I wanted to spend the time limited bonus cash, I didn’t have a lot of choice but to spend the winnings too. I’m not sure whether that’s a flaw or by design.
