Gameplaying, bookreading, some music and more birds.

After a rocky start to the morning (“you’re the meanest mummy ever and I don’t care”, scream, wail, stamp, flounce – don’t slam that SLAM and so on) the day has improved. A bloke came round to quote on putting a catflap in (really only putting that there to remind myself to tell Tim later) and there’s been reassuringly little TV watching. I try not to govern TV watching too closely, but I have noticed that if they sit too long watching complete twaddle they do tend to be more aggressive to each other, so I do things like advising them to try other channels (Big will insist on aiming only at things labelled as for children in the guide) or even saying that they’ve watched enough of a particular thing and it’s time to watch something different.

Once they’d got over the screaming and shouting, they investigated the games cupboard further, and more games of both Monopoly Junior and dominoes were played. That took us up to and past lunch time, then Big decided it was time to read (Deathly Hallows of course, she’s over halfway through now) so Small went through a phase of being bored (it lasted several minutes 😉 ), before he found a very old version of this Multipuzzle set (which reminds me of Katamino rather) and has been amusing himself building pictures with the different shapes.

Throughout this I’ve been enjoying listening to some of my favourite music, courtesy of playlist not listened to recently on the media centre, and watching the birds through the window. I’ve added a wren to my list of spotted species now, and I saw the robin around the front of the house earlier – he doesn’t seem to come to the side by the big windows particularly regularly. I topped up one of the seed feeders, and broke another one, oops, and that’s been pretty much it for my activity for the day so far. It is only 3 o’clock though, so I think I’ll come back later to update the rest of the day.
