Five more minutes!

“Daddy always lets us have five more minutes”

“After I’ve washed your hair.”

And mummy, like daddy, always goes up at least five minutes before she actually wants them out of the bath 😉

It’s not been a bad day today. Big was a little upset within minutes of Tim leaving this morning as she decided she couldn’t do the flower craft kit we’d bought for her yesterday without my help (I was working), but she figured it out and brought it in to show me. My boss, on the other end of the phone throughout, wanted to see it too 😀

And I finished in decent time to cook them tea, if you can call bunging a cottage pie in the oven, and boiled up some prepared vegetables cooking. Was a pleasant meal, and they were very happy that I ate with them, though I did skip the cottage pie, oddly enough. Not the gravy though, that was vegetarian. So we got to discuss what a vegetarian is – I do understand why ppl claim to be veggies when they are not in order to get the veggie option, but it’s still difficult to explain that to the kids – no, I wouldn’t still be veggie if I ate meat, but only organic meat. I’m vegetarian because I don’t eat meat. (I didn’t go into the whole lacto ovo area, the non organic meat was causing enough confusion.)

In and amongst the cooking we were discussing computer games – Big was most amazed to learn that she is playing computer games at a younger age than I had access to a computer – we got a ZX81, and that was my first exposure. Wonder if it’s still in a box at my parents somewhere, or whether it got chucked out in one of their many moves? She was even more amazed to discover that ppl write computer games, and completely flabbergasted when I said I could teach her – I don’t know what she thinks I do all day, I think she may well think that I just read blogs, and computers come with all the games installed, just sort of born that way. I have tried to explain previously, but I think writing her own game may cure her of that fallacy. So that’s Friday wrapped up (I’m working the evening so I can spend the day with the offspring, rather than hiding in the office and coming out for food and emergencies).

Right, five minutes most definitely up, better go haul them kicking and screaming out of the bath. Small has never been good at changes of state, but he’s got really loud in his displeasure recently and I’m not sure I can stand being screamed at again.

  1. ooh what language will you be using for the game-writing?
I keep meaning to show F Scratch.

  2. Forgot to add – I loved my ZX81

  3. quite tempted by Alice although there are loads of programming environments suitable for kids. We’ve looked at kpl and scratch before, and I know there’s another one I was considering, will have to dig that out too.

  4. That looks interesting, thanks!

  5. I remember my ZX81 too …. I think Bill gave it to me shortly after we first met 🙂
