Thurs appears to have become a bit of a blur to me, I really should blog immediately after the day or even in the evening. Hohum.
I know there was more finishing off of tidying – the room is almost acceptable now. If only I could Small into the habit (which admittedly I do not have) of putting things away or into correct next destination the battle would be won. Still, we persevere 😉
Oh yes, I remember now. Recently Big and I have had several conversations about her increasing habit of sprinkling words with apostrophes. Those who know me well will know that incorrect apostrophes are a particular pet hate, so the appearance of them totally unnecessarily in plural words has been driving me up the wall. Turns out that she has no understanding of any of the rules for forming plural words – she appears to have skipped this bit of the montessori curriculum. Not quite sure how that has occurred, but there you go. Small has a book, KS1 Success Workbook: English that he’s working through every now and then (or he would be, if we could find it, sigh) and I’m wondering whether I should get Big a copy of her own. I know that she knows about adverbs, adjectives and so on, and various other bits of grammar, but once again, she seems to be missing out on some of the basics.
Anyway, to assist with forming plurals I googled for worksheets, as you do, and came across the BBC skillswise site. I printed her off a factsheet for her perusal, and then sent her a link to the online bits. She worked her way through the game and the quizzes, and hopefully some of that has taken root.
Obviously Small wanted something similar, so I pointed him at the grammar section, notably instructions 🙂 He really enjoyed it and was on there for absolutely ages, working his way through the games.
What with one thing and another, Thurs aft turned into a bit of an all out computer session, as Small explored a couple of sites that let him build games, mainly Cartoon network gamecreator and Batman BB, that only ended when they started getting really fractious with one another and I made them come off. I wish I could spot the warning signs before it gets too far and distract them in a fun way, but I’m just not that expert 🙁
And that was Thurs.
