Another day of removing things – Tim is now in Suffolk with a van load of our furniture and boxes and bedding (kids and I have camping mats tonight, I miss our memory foam mattress already 🙁 ) Big has had major wobbles with me this evening, sparked off by my asking if she would like to go on a first aid course offered by suffolk he, and telling them both that I’d booked them on a forest school day to try out. He screamed, she wailed, and I got stroppy – not a good half hour really.
Anyway, they are hopefully quietly in bed now, while I’m working up to it (I’ve got a cup of tea to drink, and I’m trying to work out if I’ve got the energy to put bread on tonight, or whether I’d rather just do it in the morning.)
Small started off the day by working his way through an entire Introducing Science Pre School Activity Workbook with Reward Stickers. It’s very basic (the pre-school bit would probably fall at the hurdle that most pre-schoolers can’t read) but a good grounding in lots of ideas for him, and he really does like the whole sticker reward thing. So that kept him quiet for a while, and then they showed me that they’d spent ages on the neurosmith thing, and even devised their own notation for it to write down how to play various songs. So that was quite good too 🙂
Big worked really hard helping me to clear out her bedroom, not that we finished by a long shot, but we got a fair part of the way there. I’m hopeful that we can reduce her tat to the amount that will actually fit in her wardrobes, drawers and shelves, but we may run out of time for winnowing.
Bil and Tim did fantastic work removing stuff to the van, which was very tidily packed with most of our heavier stuff – think there’s only really the sideboard and Big’s bedroom bits which we’re going to struggle to lift now (hm, wonder if I’ve any other brother-in-laws unoccupied at the weekend?) I had to rescue a toad that had taken up residence at the bottom of the stairs – not a sensible place to sit when ppl are running up and down them carrying furniture. Wish Big had managed to get her camera before he turned into a chameleon in the garden – should have said to her to get it first but didn’t think. He was a wonderful creature – really quite large.
Tim departed late afternoon, and the kids and I did a charity and recycling run, finishing with a trip to the library so that Small could get the book we ordered for him last week that just arrived. Big finished another section on her ravenous reader card, but they hadn’t got the gifts in yet, and Small finished the first section on his, and they’d run out of those gifts (though the librarian managed to find him some other bit of plastic tat, yay!) so that wasn’t desperately successful.
Oh, and I dropped into school to hand back the merc, so when the van goes back on Monday, we’ll officially be a one car family. I think we were for a year or so when Tim and I were first together – I didn’t buy a car until I was due to go back to work, my lovely little fiesta. That was in the pre or one child stage though, and there weren’t home ed groups to go to all over the place 😉 Slightly odd to see all the kids over the fence – must have arrived at a sort of mid morning break time. Lots of them came over to give me hugs and chat, so that was rather lovely 🙂
Right, am retreating to camping mat with chick lit and cup of tea. Good night all.
