Choosing an allotment.

Last weekend (no, not the one we just had, the one before that) we got a letter telling us that we’d reached the top of the allotment waiting list. This was a surprise to me – when I joined there were 78 ppl ahead of me, so I was thinking it would be at least a couple of years. It was an even bigger surprise to dp who obviously didn’t listen when I told him I’d applied for one 😉

I’m not that brilliant a gardener. Getting an allotment was part of my long term plan to work towards increased self-sufficiency, but I was intending another year of growing stuff in the garden first. But I couldn’t really turn an allotment down when it was offered, so on Sunday afternoon (no, not the one I just blogged, the one before that, sigh) Big and I went for an explore to check out the site.

It’s very beautifully kept. There are allotments there that have manicured lawns, climbing frames and flower beds. Slightly unnerving in fact. However, there are also ones that are slightly overrun, and several that are beyond slightly overrun – those are the ones that were on offer, obviously.

I took photos. Lots of photos. Using the Nokia E72 I’ve got on trial (no, I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me to take the camera, but the phone isn’t that shabby anyway.)

That’s not actually quite all the pictures, but wordpress is pratting about and doing something stupid, and my anti virus is flatlining my cpu so I’ve lost the will to live for tonight. May come back tomorrow 🙂

  1. choose the one with the least weeds!!

  2. get the one with the shed!

  3. It looks like there are some nice plots there, I’d have a look at what’s growing on the plot (amongst the weeds if there are any) you may find plants you can use.
This reminds me, I really need to find out where we are on the allotment list, we were 68 I think, last time I checked.
    Happy growing 🙂

  4. Having a shed would be handy!

  5. Wow, congrats! Am coveting your allotment, have wanted one for ages but think there’s about 400 people on our waiting list! It’s a good thing that I don’t have one though, I can’t keep a pot plant alive, but I can dream… Hope you gave a great time with it, def include updates!
