Blog changes

For the observant among you, you may detect a minor change in my categories. This is prompted by the rapid approach of legal requirements to educate (as opposed to common sense!) and my increasing disinclination to play anyone else’s game. I don’t want to pressure myself into feeling that we have to educate according to anyone (read government) else’s plan – but I do want to be able to note worthy developments or achievements for our sake.

I may change them all again – I’ve just tweaked them rapidly this morning as suddenly they offended me. I also will blog more about what the compulsory thing means to me – mainly it means I’m cross! I understand the idea of making education compulsory to protect children from exploitation, but frankly, it’s just a different kind of exploitation now.

I also don’t want to buy into education as competition – which I think it something else that school trained me to do. So eyes off age goals (except for an occasional check so that I’m prepared to deflect lea enquiries should they come. Forewarned is forearmed after all).

Expect many more rambles on the nature of life and learning in days to come.

  1. They made me laugh, anyway. I dropped Hannah off today for the last day of day-camp, and as it was snowing (FFS!!), decided to have a swim rather than a walk, and have just had the oddest conversation with someone about controlling children. I can’t even articulate it properly just now, but I’ll prbably rant/blog about it later.

  2. I’m looking forward to your posts on the subject Jax – ooh and yours Joyce!

You have a way with a phrase, I love reading your writing!
Don’t you just wish that no-one had ever come up with all the age stuff like milestones etc. Sometimes anyway. I know these things have their uses, but think the negative effects outweight them hugely on the whole.

  10. Aw, thanks Ali, flattery will get you everywhere 😉
Will be ranting, sorry, debating this further over the coming days.

  11. ooh, love those categories, Jax!
