Blog award nominations again – yes, the MADs this time.

I have a real battle with myself over blog awards every year. This year I decided that I wanted enough to actually get to the finals in my own right that I’d mention them and say it was completely OK to nominate me. Then I wussed out, and didn’t actually do the post offhandedly begging for nominations and now suddenly there’s only a couple of days to go and meh.

I guess it’ll be another year of accepting that I’m just not that good or that popular. (Because if I was that good, surely the blog would be that popular? Who knows.)

MAD Blog Awards

But I don’t want to miss the chance to nominate some friends of mine, who really do have the most amazing blogs, and share my recommendations with you.

So, without further waffling:

The first blog you have to enter is your Blog of the Year. Which is way to hard to start with, so I’m going to come back to that. If you want to find out who I settled on, just skip to the bottom now.

Best writer. Miss Lexy Woo.

Best baby blog. I’ve been nominated in this one, and it’s the last time I’ll be eligible. Sniff. But there are better baby blogs out there, such as Edspire. Jennie is currently blogging her grief over the death of her beloved Matilda Mae at nine months old, and I think an award for her writing would not be at all misplaced.

Best pregnancy. This ought to be a best trying to conceive and pregnancy category, as so many people go through so much to get to pregnancy bit. But regardless, I’d like to recommend my friend at Another Goldfish. I have everything crossed for her.

Travel. I’m nodding at Luschka from Diary of a First Child here, for practical advice on carting your offspring wherever you have to go.

Best new blog. Who knew there were so many new blogs? But I’m surprised not to see Not Different but Interesting in there already.

Best family life. I’m nominated here too. Hm, probably a bit more fitting than baby, but I think Chris at Thinly Spread has me beat.

Best craft blog. I’m giving my nomination to Merry’s new craft blog, Simple Crafts. It’s a bit gorgeous, as you might expect from Merry.

Best food. I love Utterly Scrummy, and it’s thrifty too! How can you lose?

Innovative. Once upon a time I hankered after a nomination in this category, but I’ve come to realise that years of wordpress wrangling just don’t cut the mustard. Maybe next year, when I’ve actually got Technology Solved established. So instead I’m going to recommend Story of Mum. You might think that’s a bit odd, as it’s not a tech or cutting edge blog – but the many ways that are being used to help parents relate in the world of today are definitely innovative. And if you aren’t quite sure about it, take some time to explore.

Family Fun. I’m going for a bit of chaos here. With added books. How can you go wrong with that mix?

Fashion: Transatlantic Blonde. If you haven’t joined in with what I wear Wednesday, why ever not?

Thrifty. Again, the other new blog let’s raise the roof isn’t quite there (this time next year Rodney!) so how about Lulastic and the hippy shake? Fab stuff there. (Slightly surprised not to see Free Our Kids in there. But there you go.)

Schooldays. I *want* a home educator to win this one. Please? Just because. So if you don’t go for me, and I am already in there, how about Merry at Patch of Puddles? With some in, some out, shake it all about….

Photography. Bubbleboo. Doesn’t seem to be playing right now, but trust me, it’s fabulous. Edited: I had the wrong link. Doh.

Most entertaining. That’s a tough one. But I’m going with that woman from More than just a mother, whatever she’s calling herself these days 😉

Blog of the year. I can’t get Jennie out of my head. So Edspire it is. This isn’t some kind of sympathy vote (though quite honestly, would that be such a bad thing?) Jennie’s writing is raw and powerful and so utterly open as she struggles to make sense of what has happened to her family. Her blog has held her up in this darkest time, and readers can continue reaching out to her and holding her in their hearts.

  1. I am feeling the love, hun. How very, very kind. Must confess I thought you were already in there too. And I know what you mean about the chasing it, not chasing it thing. And to be Tots100 no.20? That doesn’t mean just someone likes you. That means rather a lot of someones like you.

    1. It’s not just about being in there, it’s number of nominations that gets you through to the next stage. So one mention isn’t enough. Though I think the judges might have a say too.

  2. Squeak! You are too, too lovely 🙂 You were my Family Life choice this year but I wanted to put you down several times! xx

    1. Aw, thank you 🙂

  3. Thank you for the nod lovely xx
