We’ve had two birthdays this week, as mentioned previously, so there have been drawn out celebrations. After thursday, which was multiply blogged, on friday we met my mother at M’hell, partly for the purposes of buying wedding wear as my sister’s nuptials are approaching. (This is my sole remaining unmarried sister, so unless they start divorcing (what is the expected life span of a marriage these days? youngest sister must be bucking the trend) ought to be the last time we have to do this!) The other intention was for mother to let Small choose a birthday present he wanted – he was dead set on having a toy, so we ended up in the sole remaining toyshop in that place, which is currently having a closing down sale. 🙁 to the closing but very 😀 to the sale. I bought a number of bits for school, including a Wedgits Deluxe Set which I was very impressed with – very suitable for the Montessori classroom. I’ve also cleared out a bunch of our stuff which we don’t get around to using, including our wooden shape set and taken that down – what with finally getting round to doing the recycling run this morning, I took a whole boot load of stuff out of the house this lunch time!
But I’m getting ahead of myself. After M’hell we went back to mother’s for cake, and then to the old house for a hit and run kind of clear out (brought another boot load of stuff up) and then Kirsty kindly fed the children, which allowed us time to chat, much missed. I don’t get much chatting time with friends these days, and the children aren’t seeing their friends much either. Am hoping that Big will make more local friends this week which would go some way to addressing that issue. (Brownies on Wednesday 🙂 )
That made for a late night on Friday so obviously we followed that with a busy day on Saturday, including much cleaning and tidying and then visits from the offthepath tribe as well as Kirsty and co. I pressed the breadmaker into service again, and made copious quantities of pizza dough, which turned into much pizza, which mainly disappeared :). Jan brought excellent chocolate cakes and hilarious candles and much chatting and playing went on. Behaviours started to deteriorate round about the time our children are usually having bedtime stories (I did think there was some correlation there) and one bunch of guests left then, which calmed things down quite a bit. Kirsty and I managed to spend some time looking at campsites and tentatively arranging a weekend away – really looking forward to being campers again. I’m absolutely gutted that we’re going to miss the festival of history (although I have now discovered that we are not stopping over the night of the wedding, so we aren’t actually busy on the Saturday morning, but is it too ridiculous to drive down then when I’d need to be back for work on Monday anyway? Hm.) and probably not see all that many ppl this year. I really hadn’t clicked how badly my holiday entitlement (or lack thereof) was going to affect us – I have 6 weeks off, and they are at fixed times in the year, basically when the school is closed.
And to today. Children have bounced around excitedly as Tim built bed for Big’s room, and I went off out to the recycling, school and a baby shower. And so endeth the week off. Really need to get my brain in gear with my assignments and from tomorrow, I have a new member of staff to train up as well. It’s all go.
