achievements, oddments and spring sunshine.

Let’s dwell on the positive for a change – after all, it’s Spring and the sun is shining.

Yesterday we had friends round and I planted out our bluebells and my rose. (This is the rose that I was sent when Katrin died. It had been planted out at rented house and I couldn’t bear to leaver it behind. So it came with me in a bucket and then stayed in a bucket as every time I thought about doing anything with it I just dissolved. (We’ll get to the positive in a moment, stick with me.) Yesterday was Spring equinox and from nowhere I found I had the strength to deal with it, so I did. And it felt really good. 🙂 ) The sun was actually warm and soa sat in a pushchair for the first time while I was busy with plants.

Big enjoyed her second swim club session and is learning tumble turns and racing dives. She is getting to be scary good at this.

I didn’t listen to Woman’s hour today, and I don’t intend to #willpoweralert 😀

Kids have signed up to mathletics and really enjoyed it. This is very good.

Walked to the swimming lesson again last week, and planning on walking Small to Beavers tonight. (Have just realised I have no idea where we are on the parent rota, oops. Hope I haven’t missed our turn.)

Baby massage finished on Friday, will rather miss it. Baby yoga is coming up though, so that’s something to look forward to.

Dropped in on Tim’s brother and s-i-l and dragged them back for takeout, which made for a very pleasant evening all round. Excellent spur of the moment decision on my part, and very pleased with myself for making it.

Have finally made start on emptying garage. Only one box today, but it’s a start. Journeys of a thousand miles and all that. Oh and about a third of what came out of the box went straight on a pile to be disposed of (prob charity unless anyone here wants v battered copy of The House of the Spirits or a couple of very battered collins gem german-english dictionarys? Baby names books? Pamphlet on flexi-schooling? No? Charity shop it is then!)

Did I mention the sun has been shining? What are your achievements so far this Spring?

  1. How lovely that you can now enjoy the rose in a natural setting and think of Katrin. We have a peace lily in our garden that is a similar memorial :o)
It’s amazing how spring really helps with changing your outlook. Our building works started today, and when it’s all finished, I’ll enjoy chucking things out as we unpack all the boxes!! We might even end up with a clutter-free house!

These things need just the right moments to be dealt with. I had a miscarriage in Feb, and I haven’t really found anything yet to commemorate the little one’s loss. With my first I found a beautiful pair of glass booties.
    Aw well, such is life.
    Viva la Spring!

  3. We’ve uprooted a pink peony rose 8 times now for the same reason. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned my spring achievment 😉

  4. I think I’d comment more if you didn’t ask questions about achievements! None, since you’re asking.

I have quite suddenly found the energy to rip up half the garden – the previous owners planted it up with far too many shrubs which are now far too big for their boots. We moved here nearly nine years ago, but in all that time I’ve been focussed on small-child-rearing and only now has my old love of beautiful plants re-surfaced enough to do something constructive.

  6. How lovely that you felt able to re-plant the rose, and on such a special day too! I bought an apple tree for Lynsey last spring, and have ended up moving it already, but only further down the garden lol…..but we have ‘speical’ plants shrubs etc that have moved with us each time we move house (4 times so far)
The sun really does help to lift ones spirits and see the batter side of things. x

  7. @Rita good luck on the decluttering. I thought I decluttered as we left each of our previous houses, but obviously not nearly enough! Peace lily sounds like a lovely memorial.
@Ria I’m very sorry for your loss. We have promised ourselves that we are going to plant trees for our lost babies, and also for Tim’s parents. I think it is good to have something that means something to you. I’m sure that you will find that something when the time is right.
    @Joyce – no, do tell! 😉
@Michelle I’m celebrating the very small achievements. You’ve seen our garage haven’t you? One box didn’t even begin to make a dent! Didn’t mean to put anyone on the spot though.
@Lucy I bet it feels good to get started. Will look forward to hearing more on your progress.
@Nigel I think some of our trees will be fruit trees. And yes, the sun does help so much.

  8. glad spring is working it’s magic for you Jax.

  9. Michelle, your achievement today surely has to restraining yourself from homicide?

  10. PS. Jax wants to buy the same tent as M. Can I kill her?

  11. rofl @tim – just spotted this! No, you can’t kill Jax. I like her.
I quite like the tent too.
