A week away

Aware that I really need to blog camp before I forget it all. Let’s see.

We set off a day early and spent a night in dp’s brother’s garden – worked well much to my surprise. Lovely barbecue (haloumi kebabs for me – yum!) and chance to catch up with the family. More chance that we’d thought – didn’t leave here til 12.30 and then found out that one of the cousins was due to go out for the evening – dd distraught at the thought of missing her, so we drove the 177 miles without stopping! Caught her too, so it was worth it. 😉

On to camp the following day – great to see ppl again. I’ll gloss over the regulator issue, but suffice to say, best to buy regulator and gas at the same time Hm. That did cast a bit of a shadow over the first 24 hours or so, but we got over it. Then the rain set in. Dp and I were rather enjoying the storm – I like storms – and dd was asleep (think she’d got a bit too much heat rather than too much sun.) Then dp went to the loo and came back some time later with a very wet Claudia – their tent had flooded. Every cloud and all that – meant I got to drink red wine with Layla while the men splashed around being manly and moving tents. Well, we were looking after the children!

Um, monday, why can’t I remember monday? Nope, not there. Ah, it’s coming back to me – a lot of lurching around feeling sorry for myself as I’d wrenched my back lifting sleeping child about the night before.

Tuesday, wildlife park. And I think that I earned my cat herding badge. There were 82 of us visited the park, which I thought was fairly good going, and I was very proud of the fact that it said Muddlepuddle home education in full on the time table for the talks. Shame that it was pretty much the same talk as last year though – I would have thought they would update once a year or so! Dp left for his dads and then home at about lunch time and I spent the rest of the day with Jan and co – we really got out moneys worth – they were cashing up in the shop as we were leaving. So we had ready made pizza from Safeway that night.

Wednesday and Thursday – I know that we managed swimming one of the days – thanks for the help with that Kirsty! And I did dispose of some of my felt pieces to various ppl as well. And we went to the party – there was some more rain after that.

Dd went to Sparky’s a couple of times, Small managed several firsts – including his first step right in the middle of the field. And he used a sign for food – I picked him up and ran up the field for a banana – think Merry thought I was mad, but hey, you’ve got to reward that kind of achievement! 😉

Spent Friday with Jan and co again – lots of ppl were packing up to go and I didn’t relish spending the day with dd getting sad about it. The Clarkes had to go early – seemed to barely see them this year 🙁 although they did make it to make bracelets. As did Joyce – dd really enjoyed spending some time with Hannah. Wished I’d had my camera ready when Narky came on stage during the last show and dd practically crawled onto Hannah’s lap! How cute.

Didn’t get to spend nearly enough time with the Portico, even though they gave us all lovely presents for arranging the wildlife park thing. Aww….I really like my new giraffe keyring. And I think that there were some ppl that I didn’t even get to meet, which is a shame. But overall, we all really enjoyed our holiday, and we’re already looking forward to next year.

  1. I definitely can’t remember distinct days like that – i must blog my special high p[oints though, Alison did it last year somewhere or other and i liked it, so i ought to do it too.
Email me how much my contribution to the wildlife park was and i’ll transfer to you.

  2. Need to work on winkling the recalcitrant Static wusses out of their shells and under canvas. It really is divisive – effectively it means two simultaneous camps – as has been said elsewhere. In some cases it makes sense, e.g. for the incapacitated, but in general it’s not a plus point.
