A snow leapord's nose and mermaid's hair.

I have such interesting Saturdays 🙂

Today, Small contrived to detach the nose of his snow leopard, and so I had that to fix. It was surprisingly difficult to do. Then Big has has a list of things she’s been wanting to do, and somehow, there are never enough hours in the week that aren’t dedicated to working 🙁 We have managed to fit in attaching her mermaid’s hair today though. She (the mermaid that is) is now sitting on the windowsill waiting for the glue to dry before we can go on to her skirt and so on.

The pattern called for the doll’s legs to be fastened together and a skirt/ tail glued over the top. We’re trying to figure out a way to make it a removable skirt so that Big has her very own The Little Mermaid (yes, I’m thinking Hans Christian Andersen rather than disney here 😉 ) I daresay we’ll manage to figure something out.

In other patterny news, I’ve frogged the start of the cardigan that I was making for Big. The pattern just wasn’t working out right at all. The first pattern in the pattern a day calendar is for a bamboozled shrug (I *think* that is a link to the blog of the designer, I can’t find a post on there about the pattern itself, but that appears to be right one. I don’t have any bamboo yarn, but I think the pattern will work up in the yarn I had for Big’s cardy. Well, it will when I get my US/ UK double crochets straight 🙁 But at least this time I figured out what I’d done wrong in the gauge square! I think I’m going to have to go up a hook size (no idea about the yarn equivalencies!) and go down a multiple of stitches (non pattern addicts have probably gone to sleep at this point, I’ll let you know when I’m done rambling on about yarn 😉 ) to make it fit Big, but it’s a pretty straightforward pattern, so I should be able to tell quite quickly if it’s working.

SHOUT! Yes, we’re going to talk about something other than crochet. Actually, I’m lying slightly, but at least it’s more educational and child related 😀 Big and I have decided we’re going to put together a list of all the things she wants to do and see if we can at the very least do one every weekend. So for the rest of this weekend, I’ve to finish the never ending memory boards (one *still* needs sewing) and then we’re going to see if we can finish the mermaid (would be yet another box out of the house!) Big also wants to make some more bath bombs (yes, more decluttering of chemicals, gotta be good) and she’s intrigued by the idea of crocheted victorian outfits for pegdolls, which is probably a better way into the craft than starting out with outfits for 14 1/2 inch dolls 😆 And finally she wants to do some bead weaving with the loom that the Beans got her for her birthday. Looks like I’ve a heavily crafty day ahead of me tomorrow 🙂

Small is occupying himself on the CBeebies website, in between producing copious amounts of drawings for me. His drawings, as mentioned in passing recently, have suddenly changed in nature. We now have lots of pictures of ppl – bodies, arms, legs and faces. The attention to detail has leapt up as well – pictures of me now have short hair.

There, that feels much better. A chatty, related to life blogpost. It’s been far too long.

  1. What is a leapord?

  2. Olivia wants to start crochet…ing(?) We’ve always got plenty of wool. We’ve had books from the library for the last week or so. Yesterday, I bought her a hook. Um….now there is no excuse to get on with it. Except I have never so much as touched a hook yet…

  3. Jax, if i ever get to meet you i will beg you to teach me to crochet. Its the one craft i have tried to do but failed consistently at :o(
I’ll give the blogring another whirl so yes, please could you send me the code.

  4. What yarn weight is it supposed to be Jax? I’ve got sort of handy at translating them seeing as just about everything I ever want to do comes off a US site!
I’m not brave enough yet to try crochet with Aprilia, it’s just too scary a thought (but then Big has been able to knit for ages hasn’t she? Aprilia still hasn’t *quite* mastered taht one…)

  5. I’m pretty unconvinced that we are going to see your posts move very far from ‘Crochet monthly’ 😉

  6. I think I might change her title to “Hooking It Up”.
