You're amazing, yes, you.

Last week as I was struggling out of the leisure centre, chasing the toddler, carrying the huge changing bag and the baby car seat, the woman on the desk smiled at me, and said “You’re amazing, I don’t know how you do it.”

And for a moment I thought, as I always do when someone says something like that, “do what?” Because as ever, it’s the things I haven’t done that I think about, rather than the things I haven’t achieved. Then today, Mamacrow sent me this fabulous link and I decided that actually, the woman on the desk was right.

I am amazing. I have four fabulous children. I work hard to feed them food actually cooked instead of out of packets. I try to follow their interests and challenge them to widen their horizons and grow. I supply them with educational opportunities and fun outings, I make pizza from scratch because it’s Small’s favourite food.

My shopping expeditions are convoluted – Aldi because they do the right cereal and organic baby food for out and about. Lidl for the right chocolate bars and chocolate spread, and the only cat food that the cat will eat. The coop for a variety of locally sourced additions to our diet, Morrison’s for the cheapest beer. And on it goes.

Don’t get me started on shoe shopping, or making sure that the clothes I buy don’t have irritating labels or scratchy fabrics.

And I do it.

I more or less keep us organised, they are all healthy and reasonably happy, so tonight I’m just going to feel proud of myself. Bit of that self respect I mentioned the other night.

What are you proud of yourself for? Because come on, I know you’re amazing too.

  1. Lovely post, and yes, you are. As for me, I am proud that I have got through the day without shouting, even though I feel ill and have done for more than a week; that I cooked enough turkey casserole on Saturday night (at midnight) to feed us all for two days; that I managed to get the children to come blackberry picking on Sunday, and despite their reluctance they enjoyed it; that I have got the swimming things ready for tomorrow, and laid out the breakfast things on the table; that the house is quite a bit tidier and more organised than it has ever been. I will choose to focus on those things, rather than all the things I haven’t managed to do. Thanks for the reminder:-)

    1. Wow, that’s a huge amount of stuff! Go you.

  2. Yes, you are, Jax. Not to mention all that other computery/bloggy/programming stuff you do. And then you continue to challenge yourself with exercise and other personal development stuff. Be kind to yourself – you’re doing amazingly!

    1. I will if you will 🙂

      1. Hmm, well I like a challenge 😉

  3. I agree, you are amazing. I have one child so I’m 1/4 the amazing you are. (Because I know how much you love statistics. ;o))

    1. Thanks, but I’m not sure you can measure amazing that way, we’re just all incredible!

  4. I’m knackered and jaded tonight. Have sourced and watched Eisenstein’s October with SF for IGCSE history, washed all the sheets and taken them to laundrette cos it kept training, gone to park for home ed meet and tried to be friendly and positive with new home edder, cooked spinach and lentil curry and then gone to supermarket in the evening to get all the frozen food that didn’t come with the delivery this week. Guess tired is ok but would like to feel a bit more satisfied…

    1. I know what you mean. It’s so hard to focus on what we have done, especially when lots of it is transient.

    1. Thank you, and thanks for stopping by.
