Yet another boring baby post 🙂

This isn’t meant to be a pregnancy blog, so I apologise for yet again droning on about baby stuff, but I’m so relieved by the scan and everything today that I just have to share 🙂

Tim and I dropped the kids off round at their uncle and auntie’s about 10 this morning, and then went off to the hospital to wait for our scan appt. As is common in many of these depts, they appear to operate a system where they give many ppl the same appt time, and then you all just get to sit and wait. At one point one of the blokes was sitting waiting on the floor, there was so little room for the number of ppl sitting about and I was very glad that we hadn’t brought the children.

Anyway, we were eventually seen 45 minutes after our appt time, by which time steam was coming out of Tim’s ears and I was just deeply grateful that something was happening – sitting around with a litre of fluid waiting to be processed is not a great deal of fun. The scan today was for dating and nuchal screening purposes, so the sonographer started by explaining what she would be measuring and how it takes 2 weeks to do all the calculations and let you know what your risk factor is. She then cranked up the machine, did a quick measurement and said “and that all looks absolutely fine, completely average” so I guess the 2 week warning was more about if she had any concerns than an actual operating procedure!

We got to see babe cavorting about the place again, and now know that its heartrate is 170bpm (Big was fascinated by this fact) and its measurements put it at 12 + 3, even though by dates I’m 12 weeks today. They seem to be able to see way more detail on the scans now than they could when Big was the blurry dot – I’m sure all the abnormality stuff was done at 20 weeks then.

We paid out (£5!) for a scan photo, which turned out to be well worth it, as Small now believes there is a baby and is going to nice to me because of it 😀 – in fact we’ve even discussed whether it might be worth doing one of the 3D scans to give him more of a chance to understand what’s going on. Have to say that I thought the pictures on the wall of them were deeply scary though.

And then we got shunted down to the pathology for the blood test that goes with this scan, where they operate one of those take a ticket systems. My number was 74 and the number being seen was 55 so I settled down for a long wait (at least I’d been to the toilet in the meantime!) but there were 4 technicians? nurses? doing tests, and so it was working out that the numbers were going down 1 a minute, not so bad after all. And I have to say that having a blood test done by someone who does blood tests for a living is a completely different experience – I barely felt it happen, even though she chose a different vein to normal, and it doesn’t look like there’s going to be even a tiny bruise. Turns out her daughter is also pregnant following IVF, a month behind me, but had had her first scan today, so we exchanged best wishes and then Tim and I dashed back for a lovely lunch with the kids and D and S.

  3. 🙂 Lovely post.

  4. Great to hear this 🙂 Surely if you just take Small to the next scan he’ll get used to the idea enough – as well as the fact that there will be some physical evidence of Smallest’s existence as well soon?

  5. We look forward to news of this type on this front 🙂

  6. Out of all the things I don’t miss about being pregnant, siting in an ultrasound waiting room desperate for a wee is pretty high up the list, lol!
Glad it all went well 🙂

  7. so, does this mean that “Small” gets promoted to “Medium” at some point soon then 😉

  8. Good to hear.
In my family there is a Little Judy and a Little Rich – and both are bigger than their Big versions. You’ll just have to have Tiny 😉

I like that this post had “I have been foolish too many times” as the footer quote i could see. I totted up today that i have now been pregnant 9 times and thought that erred on the side of extreme foolishness!!!!!

  10. Fabulous news – and not boring in the slightest!

  11. Oh, sorry for duplicate, not sure how that happened.

  12. yay yay yay!
