Yet another bad night

wonder if next door is on weird shifts again – remember that used to disturb Big long long ago when she was in her cot in our room.

Given that, was quite impressed that I managed to haul myself out of bed before 9. Even more impressed when I then sat a java test exam. Not quite so impressed when I only got 41%. 🙁 Ummed and ahhed for ages, then postponed the exam to friday (only choice before Hesfes was this Friday or next, and next I’m planning on travelling to Dorset) and ordered an exam cram book off Amazon, after ringing both the nearest Waterstones to check whether they stocked it.

Coming to the conclusion that there is something about online learning which isn’t drumming it into my brain – I always used to be one of these ppl that takes notes, and then makes notes on the notes, with a suitable number of different coloured pens of course 😉 Anyway, there is something about the act of writing things down that appears to etch them more firmly into my brain, so have spent today researching the basic stuff that I’m falling over (*how* am I falling over the basic stuff? I was a senior programmer and good at my job, honestly!), printing it out, and tonight I’m going to make diagrams. Actually, just the act of researching it and pulling it together in notepad appears to have started some of it sticking, as I’ve found when doing this test repeatedly. Plus Big has enjoyed watching. 🙂

Ah yes, children. Knew there was some reason I’m supposed to be here. Been trying to give them a bit more autonomy today, equating to “no, you *can’t* have the television on, I’m trying to concentrate, go and find something *else* to do!” Well, it was sunny, you’d think they’d enjoy playing in the garden….nope. They’ve had a little time fighting on cbeebies online, and otherwise just pestered each other and me. It’s been lovely.

Anyway, the oven is beeping to say that the food might be ready, and I’ve (paying) work to do, so off I go again.

  1. I can’t learn anything from a screen – it has to be on paper and, like you, I have to take notes. Otherwise it just doesn’t stay in. Must be something to do with vibrational rates or something.
    Good luck with your cramming!

  2. you can do it!!
I was a writer, but eventually managed to do it by reading – making it into rhythms that scan helps

  3. I learn by writing too – take notes, make them shorter, then shorter, then a few words. Short term I can visualize information but it doesn’t really stink in.
It will all click eventually (in my vast experience of taking exams 😉 )
