Welcome to SAGA Zone

“SAGA Zone is a new online community where you create a whole new social network of friends and easily stay in touch from the comfort of your home……. Anyone over 50 can join SAGA Zone in three easy steps.”

Or not.

I really can’t see the appeal. The last time I was put in a slot based on my age I was at school. Can’t say I liked it much then.

  1. My parents have been on a SAGA cruise, they loved it. I don’t think it is so much a slot, more an available avenue for people to meet people with some similarities to them or in similar circumstances. Lots of people who are divorced or widowed at 50 get hugely isolated, lots of couples just don’t know other couples anymore and would like to. If we were a hugely welcoming community spirited country, then maybe it wouldn’t be needed but you might as well say that there is no appeal to having nursing homes because the eldery should be cared for by close family. Maybe they should, but it doesn’t happen.
I see no reason for there NOT being a SAGA ZONE; after all, Facebook is mainly 20/30/40 somethings, even if no one says it, MySpace seems to be mainly under 20s. I’m on a forum where they young girls have their own space on it because their needs are different and the married 30 somethings have their own board because they need to be amoung people who understand them. What’s wrong with over 50’s having the same? If you go on Neopets, people gravitate towards Guilds with people of similar ages mainly; i got deeply bored of belonging to one where little girls of 12 talked about how they couldn’t be happy unless they had a baby, so i went and found one for over 18s – is that any different?
