UK terror tactics 'create unease'

The government’s approach to terrorism is creating an atmosphere of suspicion and unease, the head of the Muslim Council of Britain has said.

Muhammad Abdul Bari told the Daily Telegraph the amount of debate relating to Muslims was disproportionate.

When I talk about things like the governments plan to increase the length of time that ppl can be held without charge (the home secretary says that “she doesn’t know what the extension should be, although her junior ministers Tony McNulty and Lord West have both talked about at least 50 days.”) I don’t think, I don’t need to worry about it as I’m not muslim. I don’t think that it will only be applied to muslims, and I don’t think it’s only muslims who are fighting against it. So why does the bbc insist on adding to the perceived rift between various parts of our communities by posting about how muslims are concerned about what’s going on? Lots of us are concerned about what’s going on, and I’m not least concerned by the way the bbc is reporting it.

It’s a very strange world we’re living in.
