Try it Tuesday

I’ve instituted a new tradition today. Today is the first try it Tuesday, when I will try cooking a new meal, and everyone will try it.

The meal was roasted aubergine on bulgar wheat with chick peas and onion, from June’s easy cook magazine. It was not overly successful – bland was the kindest word that could be applied. But the bigger children ate the bulgar wheat and they both tried the aubergine, so that aspect was a resounding success. And I’d planned ahead, and made chocolate brioche pudding which went down very well.

I reflected on it afterwards. I’ve come on a lot in the last couple of years. Got to a point where I’m happy to try cooking a new meal, and not instantly depressed if it doesn’t work. I am bored with doing the same thing week in week out and determined to stretch my cooking skills and the kids taste buds.

It made today feel rather more successful than it had earlier. So that was nice.
