(Friends of the Earth Scotland) Campaigners are to return unwanted packaging to supermarkets as part of a campaign to cut waste. BBC

I have thought of doing just this. Makes a lot of sense to me, the supermarkets have to pay to have their rubbish taken away, so I think if they had to pay to get rid of all the pointless plastic, I think they might be inclined to do more to reduce it.

On Your Bike

Torygraph reports “Man who had sex with bike in court”. Which ought really to read “Man who had sex with bike in hotel room in court” I really don’t get this on all sorts of levels. Like, how, for example? Also, I don’t understand what the offence was. Using a sex aid? Sex in hotels rooms? Or just sex? (Edit – come to think of it, does this count as “furious riding of a bicycle”? But why would that get you on the sex offenders register? I think there ought to be a separate offence of “wearing Lycra shorts” though)

    I like the idea of taking all the packaging back. I do insist that Asda keep the hangers from clothes that are quite obviously NOT going to get hung up in our house (so that’s most of it then….) I’d love to be able to dump all he rest of the stuff that’s just pointless too.
    As for strange going-ing on in hostels well, the mind boggles. And what’s with putting him on the register? I mean, how many cycles do you know that have access to that sort of information to know to watch out for him 😉

    you see, pavements I can understand because it is in public. But if he was in a private room, then I really don’t see the problem.
    If a member of staff knocked on the door where two people were having sex, but they didn’t hear the knocks, so they let themselves in, would that then be indecent? Or if he had simply been pleasuring himself without the aid of a bike?
    Unless the insinuation was that he knew they were going to come, and he didn’t answer the knock on purpose. So it was about the being caught, rather than the act itself.
    I didn’t think the phrase ‘riding the local bike’ was a literal one.

    Maybe it was a man who had sex, then went to court with his bike? Coulda been, like, a total non-story and they just put the sex bit in so people would blog about it.
    I love the trashback idea. If I wasn’t desperate to get out of the place when I’ve got through the tills I’d stand there removing all the packaging and dumping it there before I left. My mother does that. They really love her 😉
