Today is the first day #30dayplan

I read a book yesterday. It’s a preview copy of one that’s due out in July, so the full review will be posted in June. But the short note is that it gave me a serious and much needed kick up the backside. Other things have conspired to shake me out of my rut. The sun has come out – spring has definitely sprung. (Yes, I know the forecast is for it to get cold again, but right now, I’m basking.)

So last night, I was pondering giving myself a serious talking to. And I started thinking about maybe getting a couple of self help books, looking into preparing to make some changes, plotting to do some things differently…

Then I stopped, and realised that as usual, I’m putting things off. I’m scared of change. Scared of changing. But this, today, this is my life, and I only have one. And I have three children depending on me, a house in case, and too many things way out of control. So right then and there, I decided I was going to have a #30dayplan to get stuff in order now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Right this minute, now.

I’ve already started. For self image and fitness, I ran this morning, 2.5 miles. I’ve been running for a while, and the endorphins are good. I’m going to add in some core strength work and some yoga, to stretch out the muscles, improve my posture and my saggy bits. (Don’t you hate saggy bits?) Oh, and I’ve given up bourbons. *Sob*. But being over 10 stone has bothered me for too long, so my goal is to be under it by the end of thirty days. I also want to have continued to run an average of a mile a day, and to have built up my runs to half the 10k I’ve got to be able to run by June.

Also, I’m going to get up earlier and go to bed earlier. I’m wasting the daylight and the daytime faffing around on twitter instead of sleeping. So this morning both me and the baby were up before 9. (Which is of course why I’m trapped under her sleeping before 12, sigh, but these things will change gradually…) This meant that I had bread on for lunch and washing in the machine before I ran. (The washing is still in the machine, but I’m going to go rectify that just as soon as I’m done here 😉 )

And the rest of today’s targets are to deal with the posting of stuff that I’ve been putting off for days, to select and parcel up the fabric for a #keepsakecritter (separate post to follow on that one) and to find and deal with the passport documentation. I might not fit all of that in this afternoon, given we’ve also got a doctor’s appt at 2pm, but if I don’t try, I certainly won’t.

liveotherwise challengeWhat would you change in 30 days? If you’re happy to join in with me, stick your blog in the comments and I’ll lift it into the post – I don’t want to end up link baiting with no return. If you support me, I want to support you 🙂

  1. I’ll join you, I need to lose weight and get my eating under control. So I guess my 30day plan is to get below 10 stone too but also to be eating healthily and definitely not stopping for chocolate at every newsagents, convenience store, supermarket etc that I pass….

  2. Hi, I found you via Ella’s twitters about the #30dayplan. I’m in – starting tomorrow as today is already buggered. I also need to lose weight, exercise and generally get my life under control. More self discipline about WAH and housework. Will blog about it during the week and link to you (I’ll let you know). Thanks – this could be just what I needed. – Rachel

  3. It must be the sunshine or something in the air as I’ve just started out on something very similar, just open ended ‘get myself together’ rather than with a specific timeframe. It will be interesting to see how we get on 🙂
    I’m at http://www.theapprenticehousewife.blogspot.com

  4. Good luck with it, they all sound like great changes.
I won’t join in because I seem to fail at everything I right down but I’m trying to make little changes myself. I look forward to hearing about how you get on though. 🙂

    You’ve given up:
    – biscuits?
    – American whisky?
    – both?

  6. I’m busy making small steps (I’d say baby steps but I might as well snort derisively at the thought!) and I’ve had a list. Weight etc appears to be pointless, nothing makes any difference, so I’m concentrating on a list of natures walks, reading with the kids, oing creative things, making positive creative improvements to the businesses etc. It is helping. It’s a forgiving list, I just aim to have done more of the good things each month than I did last month.

  7. we are taking small steps here too. I want to go back to running again but to do taht I first need to deal with the continual shin soreness which means doing my (well, okay, Aprilia’s) physio routine relegiously which will stabilise the joints and stop the pains (well, reduce them at least). The obvious plus side to me doing it is, of course, that she does it with me, we both grimace our way through it 3 times a day, every day.

  8. Right, I’m taking up the challenge. Sick of feeling like I’m not living up to my potential.
So my 30 day plan starts tomorrow – since I too have already buggered up today!
I want to eat more healthily (in the hope the scales will show an improvement) and stop biting my nails – which I know sounds a bit silly but I always bite them when I’m feeling down.
Already doing gym, but need to stop driving everywhere and start walking and getting more active in my general life.
Will also go to bed earlier and get more sleep. The bags under my eyes could carry my shopping at the moment.
Keep me up to date with how you’re all doing and I’ll Tweet and blog how I’m getting on.
