The underrated books of Robin McKinley.

I have mentioned Robin McKinley a time or two before. 18 times in fact, if my quick search of my archives is to be believed, in articles about feminist fiction, and dragons among others. And yet despite this, it is quite common to find people, well read people at that, who seem never to have heard of her.

How is this possible?

What are you all reading??

Well, I’m here today to tell you that the next novel from her desk arrives with us very soon.

SHADOWS is coming September 26th And if you tweet it, blog it or facebook it, you can be entered to win a signed copy. Obviously I’d really rather you didn’t do that, as I want it all for myself, but if you do, the contest is here. If you’re haunting social media looking for references to it, it’s #RMcKSHADOWS on twitter and facebook.

If you’d like a quick run down of where to start with the Robin McKinley archive, I’d recommend The Blue Sword and The Hero and The Crown. They are wonderful fantasy novels suitable for teens and adults with interesting characters and excellent stories. You can buy some Robin McKinley at Hiveicon while supporting independent bookshops (affiliate link) but a lot of them are rarer and you may need greenmetropolis or even Robin McKinley at Amazon (also affiliate link).

And if you’d like to get a flavour of the writer herself, you could do worse than to find her blog or twitter.

Disclosure: I’m a total Robin McKinley fan. Can you tell?
