The perfect holiday

Would not involve sickness bugs 😉

I’m blogging on the offchance that I’ll get selected as a MarkWarnerMum. They’d like to know what my perfect holiday would be.

We don’t go in for luxury holidays in a big way here, mainly because with 4 children, the prices are a bit exorbitant. So our usual family getaway is in a tent. And it’s mainly to a field where we then dress up as tudors.

Yes, well, we’re not the usual run of the mill family 😉 We have had one fully catered holiday abroad, courtesy of my father for his 60th. My sisters, their families, their children’s families – there were so many of us they gave us our own special table in the room above the normal dining room, which made group meals great fun. And I confess, the perfect holiday would very definitely involve someone else catering *and* washing up.

I don’t think it would involve skis. I confess that I’m actually rather scared of the idea of belting down a hill on a couple of pieces of whatever they’re made out of that isn’t wood. And I really couldn’t face watching the children do it. But somewhere with a swim pool so that the older ones could show off their mer tendencies, and Smallest and Tigerboy could build confidence – that would be good.

And where the weather looked like this.

Toddler abroad

That’s Smallest, aged around 18 months. She had the most fabulous week, surrounded by relaxed family, with warm weather, good food, endless hot chocolate (free bar was included in our package). (Can I add free bar to the list of attributes?)

The Canary Islands are easily accessible, relatively short flight. I do sometimes think about driving holidays, maybe to a pre erected tent, but I think I’d still end up doing too much cooking and cleaning up. Or if we toured in a camper, like so many of our friends have done. They’re great for educational stuff, and I’d love to create that kind of memory, but it would feel a bit busman’s holiday, and really I want to create family memories of a full holiday, where we all get a break.

So my perfect holiday has sun, swimming, maybe some sports or kids activities, with catering and absolutely no washing up. And ends up with lots of lovely pictures.

  1. I love that photo at the end of the 5 of you – you all look great. Good luck with the contest.

    1. Having read a few of the other posts, I really don’t stand a chance. Video, gorgeous photos, in depth descriptions of holiday destinations – I need to lift my game, but having a week wiped out by camp and then sickness left me with zero reserves. Oh well. *sobs slightly*

  2. Love that last photo of you all and that sounds like an amazing holiday x

  3. Love the picture of all 5 of you. <3. Everybody looks so cute.
