The good bits

It’s Friday! A whole two days before I have to drive up the M1 again.

Recent events have conspired to remind me how much I enjoy not having to have the office routine. Being at work reminds me that I actually quite like working. Or some aspects of working. More thought required to figure out a good balance.

It’s been a tough week for one reason or another. There was the tyre incident of the other day, requiring running out to get new tyres for the car (incidentally KwikFit phoned to ask how it had been, and I told them :evil:) which in turn necessitated doing some work in the evening to make up for over an hour out of the office during the day. (Which wasn’t all bad, I did at least have Maria Montessori: Her Life and Work with me, so could read.)

On Tuesday, Tim was in the area so arranged to pick up the kids from school, meaning that I could arrange to swim in my lunch hour. I treated myself to some new goggles, and managed 20 lengths, which, along with brisk walks there and back means I did get some exercise this week. I’ve also focussed on my diet, improving my fruit and veg intake (I’m a vegetarian that struggles with the 5 a day concept, sometimes I wonder what I eat at all tbh) and I’ve been trying to get to bed at a reasonable hour. Of course most nights I did the really irritating wake half a dozen times, and the one night I didn’t, Big came and woke us up just after 6, but it’s a good habit to get into, right?

The kids have loved going back to school. They are shattered – the days are far too long for them, but they really do love it there. Big has enjoyed seeing E again – I got to meet his mother the other day but we couldn’t really bond when standing in a garden with tired offspring. Small has produced some fab pictures – he’s started adding speech bubbles and speech to them too.

Got a bargain in the charity shop the other day, well, several actually. Picked up The Five People You Meet in Heaven (which I read last night and thoroughly enjoyed, amused to see that a familiar Alison had already reviewed it on Visual Bookshelf on Facebook), Beyond Certainty: Changing World of Organisations (which I started reading while compiling today), The Green Mile (Don’t usually go for his stuff, but occasionally the blurb interests me) and Play with a Purpose for Under-sevens (Penguin Health Books) (which just looked interesting, and I thought would tie in with my montessori reading) as well as a Crystal Radio Kit, Blue all for £3.50.

let’s see, this is becoming real stream of consciousness rather than weeks worth of blog really, isn’t it? Big is going to be getting keyboard lessons at school, the music teacher has got her hands on some free keyboards and is donating them on. Rather pleased about this as music is one of our biggest failings (closely followed by languages, muzzy chinese was not a bargain). And today I got to look more like me again when I went to pick up my contact lenses. Thrilled, even though I’ve now got a headache (wore them about 5 hours instead of the recommended 4, eyes don’t hurt, but head is throbbing).

Now I’m going to get kids out of bath and read to them while Tim goes for chips. And fish.

  1. ROFL at vegetarians who struggle with the 5 a day concept, what exactly do you eat then?? And similar ROFL-ing at Chinese Muzzy. French Muzzy is bad enough….

  3. Jax, you’re a bad person. I was nearly going to go to bed early, then I had to spend 45 minutes laughing at those XKCD cartoons. 😉

  5. T-bird, that’s part of the problem. I have muesli for breakfast, cheese sandwich for lunch then something like rice and curry, or pasta and sauce or pizza for tea, and I’m nowhere near 5 a day. So I’m taking fruit to work, sometimes with cherry tomatoes too, and trying to improve my evening meal a little. I think it’s helping some.
