that wasn't the fresh start I had in mind.

I thought I was concentrating. I thought I was a safe distance behind the car in front. But the evidence, in the form of my bent and broken fiesta is very much against me. That was at around 8.40 this morning, I was almost to work. Then I spent quite some time on the phone to various companies, then I tried to empty my car of stuff, then I got told that the AA was being sent to recover the vehicle, and all I needed to do was wait with it. And by this time there was someone loitering around the back door of the pub attached to the carpark my poor car had limped to, so I went to apologise for being there and was told to come in and have a cup of tea.

The AA made it in 30 minutes, despite quoting 2 hours to my insurance company. (Aforementioned insurance company had persuaded them to put a priority on it by pointing out that I was in a severely distressed state. Which I was when on the phone to them. Sob.) Geoff was lovely and recovered my car home in just over an hour and a half, including two sets of 15 minutes assembling and dissassembling his rather nifty towing device. And we avoided the M1 which was mainly shut with someone who was having an even worse day than me.

So home by lunchtime, without having had breakfast. And then I spent the afternoon discovering that I still don’t know how to install a tomcat server. I will do by monday though, honest. And I’ve watched The Tomorrow People – Series 1 – The Slaves Of Jedikiah [1973] – it’s amazing to look back and see what in 1973 ppl thought the world of computers and so on was like, and compare it with something like Heroes [2006] I mean, they are basically the same premise, a question as to what the next stage of the human race might look like, and I think the comparison is fascinating.

In other news, my book as ordered some time before Christmas has finally arrived. Won’t be recommending that Amazon seller, particularly as they haven’t yet responded to the email I sent yesterday asking if they had posted the book yet.

Oh, and I beat Tim at scrabulous. Again. 😀

  5. Sorry to hear about your even less pleasant than usual journey to work, and I’m glad that it’s only the car that got hurt.
