That was the month that was.

Can’t believe that January is over already. Although we were kind of busy. A birthday, a holiday, lots and lots and lots of books…home education (as usual) history day, a few more books, a geodesic dome, some running (36 miles I think), a first pair of shoes for a smallest child, oh, and a few more books.

It raced by. We didn’t make 100 books, which meant that there have been some tears. On the plus side, we’re a tenth of the way towards our £429 target and both children are actively reviewing books on a site of their own. Small has learnt to change the layout and header of his blog, and Big and I have the Shinglestreet book review website finally live.

Normal things have happened. Maths, computing, tv, music. Walks to the leisure centre. Swimming lessons, rookie lifeguard, swim club, golf. We even made a whole trip to the allotment, though sadly we’ve yet to actually, well, dig. Everything has been rather subsumed under the 100 book challenge though, and I need to come up from under that and review where we go next.

The challenge is not over. We *will* somehow raise the money for a library. We’re going to have competitions. I’m thinking about a bring and buy book party. I might flog some stuff on ebay – wish I could work out how to hold a virtual raffle legally. Oh, and just yesterday I got the email to say I’m confirmed as a book giver for World Book Night, so I need to be thinking about that too.

In the meantime, the blog has been sadly neglected. There have been next to no day to day posts. Hardly any opinion. Only book reviews, and no competitions. All that will be changing over the next few days. I’ve been fulminating over rants and raves on my solitary runs. Our education needs discussing at length and analysing to the nth degree. Much stuff is lying around requiring reviewing, and I have competition prizes stacking up on the table next to me.

February is shaping up to be an exciting month 🙂

  1. I’ve been pondering this and had a thought. Could you maybe do a bloggers’ book swap? So you pay £1 to enter the book swap, and submit your address. Then you’re matched with someone else on the list and you send a book you loved to them.
And they send a book to someone else, and so on, and so on. And you could ask people to write a post (after they send their book) explaining the challenge and writing why they sent the book they did.
Yes, people would spend £1 donating and £1 on postage – but it all adds up, maybe?

    1. I’d been wondering about something like this too – will try a post about it and see if I get any takers. Thanks for the suggestion 🙂
