I really didn’t want to get out of my warm bed this morning, and neither did Big or Small. But I hauled them both out for Big’s swimming lesson. Wish I hadn’t bothered.
First of all, we ran out of milk – just enough for the children to have breakfast, but none for me. 🙁 Then somehow Big contrived to put her swimming costume into her bag in such a way that when she picked her bag up, it fell out, and of course I didn’t notice, so we got to the pool without it. Tim came to the rescue and brought it over, but by then we were running 10 minutes late. And there was a substitute teacher, a bloke, who seemed rather more optimistic about what our children can achieve than the usual instructor does, so Big got into the pool, clung to the side and wailed for half an hour.
I cajoled, I threatened, I pleaded, other parents tried too, the instructor tried, and nothing would shift her. By the time the lesson was over she was hysterical, couldn’t have stopped crying if she had wanted to. At that point her instructor appeared, and was ever so upset to hear that Big was upset. She got her out of the pool, and promised that she would be there next week (as she’d overslept this week, we can only but wonder if she will make it next week 🙁 ) and helped her jump in, but the damage was most definitely already done.
So that was fun. We had performances at the coop (stopped for milk) and another at home, so I’m in full scale damage limitation mode now, and really, I *need* to be working, not dealing with this!
Grr…

Well, if it makes you feel any better we had swimming lesson fiasco today as well. Change of teacher with us too, but despite knowing the teacher Josiah completely refused to go anywhere near the water. He’d missed the beginning of the lesson cos he was in the toilet, so I was rushing him, and it went downhill from there on in. After 5 minutes of trying I gave up and took him away, I knew I wasn’t going to achieve anything, but I was pretty mad.
Then at gym this afternoon Abbie spent most of her time poking other people and making silly squeaking noises … so while I was watching her and trying to catch her eye to give her ‘a look’, Josiah escaped completely from the Sports Centre and was brought back to me by some member of staff or other, he’d been trying to go back to the car on his own, daft child. I had only just noticed that he’d gone, but thought maybe he’d gone to the loo, so wasn’t feeling overly concerned, but then when he came back I was mortified, you know that angry and upset thing all at the same time when they do something like that.
So I can really grr in sympathy today. I’ve stuck them in front of a video, my version of damage limitation mode (damage that I will do to them if I don’t get some space quickly!). Hope something nice happens later – we’re going out for a meal tonight so I have that to look forward to. Hugs from me (and sorry for the absurdly long comment, I feel better now 😉 ) xx
((((hugs)))) jax, and Sarah! Goodness, what a tale you both have to tell today!
Lol – its dvd’s at 40 paces here too today!
Sympathy to you both.
Sorry to hear that Jax and Sarah. People who take classes with young children just don’t realise what effect they can have just by simply not getting their backside into gear and sleeping in!!
