Another lovely lie in, although I awoke to perfectly horrid weather, rain lashing down and winds howling or something to that effect. Certainly not a day for walking to libraries or swimming pools, and the birdwatch was a bit of a washout too, though we did get a flock of seagulls at one point.

The children reversed the day and watched The Spiderwick Chronicles before lunch, then we gathered ourselves together to not really brave the elements and go swimming. Tim, who is in no fit state to swim, gave us a lift, and I took the children into the water. The pool here is rather good, though I think their advertised water temp of 84F was optimistic to say the least. Small was thrilled with a couple of little slides into shallow water and Big moped, stomped (yes even in water) and flounced about, wanting me to take her into the deep end (not happening when I’ve got the completely unscared of everything Small to deal with as well), wanting me to find out whether she could go on the flume, wanting me to take her to the lifeguard so she could ask and generally behaving like a needy three year old. It’s boring, to say the least, and I’ve no idea what I need to do to stop it happening. Eventually Small sussed out that there was a poster with the rules at the bottom of the flume, and rather to my surprise she spent 15 minutes going on it. By the end of that time he was shivering rather badly, so we decamped and rang Tim for a lift home.

Back home and I can’t remember what she did but I sent her to her room. Small went in there with her until they started fighting, then I brought him out and he amused himself reading Harry Potter. He did have to ask what exasperated meant, but other than that, he seems to be coping fine. He moved on to the Bill Oddie birding pack after a while, and brought the book over, saying, I don’t say the ‘p’ here? The word was ptarmigan 🙂 So I’m guessing that the single lesson he had on that one courtesy of Magic Treehouse Valley of the Dinosaurs sank in nicely 😀

We had a mainly pleasant tea in the end, although my joints have begun to ache now, and I have a headache. Thanks for sharing love. Children have been cleaned (forgot to take shampoo to pool, so they had to shower when we got back) and inserted into bed, and we’ve spent the past hour going in to them telling them to be quiet:( Think Tim’s last visit worked, so I should be able to go to bed soon. Think I need it. Must drape washing around the house first though, so that it will be dry for in the morning, time to trek back to Yorkshire.
