Start the day

the assertive way 🙂

Driving down the road to take the kids to school I spotted a builder walking towards the site on the other side of the road. He then took the lid of his styofoam coffee cup and chucked in on grass verge he was walking along.

I stood on the brakes (didn’t take much, we were only about 20 feet out of the drive 😉 ) and wound down the window. “Excuse me, I live round here, would you mind not throwing rubbish on the floor like that?” or words to that effect. One very sheepish looking builder turned around and went back to get it.

Made me feel pretty good – I wouldn’t have been too surprised if I’d been told to * off or some such, but I really don’t think that it’s acceptable behaviour. Pondering on ringing the council to complain actually – he obviously wasn’t the first to have just lobbed his rubbish on that bit of verge 🙁 The kids were well impressed with me though so that was quite nice 🙂

Decent run up and down the M1 – if only I travelled at that time every day! Stopped in at hobbycraft on the way back – wanted to buy some ribbon for our memory boards, and also a cable needle. Hannah at Bittersweetblog has persuaded me to try cabling – I just can’t resist the wonderful creations she keeps blogging about!

Got back in home just in time to turn around and run out to my first appt of the day, rather enjoyed that. Back home and a bit more cleaning and organising, though never as much as I intend somehow 🙁 Then up to M’hell for an eye appt. For the first time in absolutely ages, didn’t need new glasses following an eye check! There wasn’t anyone there that could do a contact lens appt though, so I’ve to go in again for that. I would like to be wearing lenses again – I really don’t like glasses or how I look with them.

Did a few bits of shopping after that – both my work and the kids school have sent out a call saying that they are collecting toys for underprivileged children in the local area. Work has said that some guy from a radio station is coming in on Friday to pick up whatever we donate, so I popped to Poundland and grabbed several items from there. Is that bad of me? I got nice bits – as long as you’re careful you can find some good things. One of them is even a branded toy from some tv programme. I hate feeling like I’ve got to give to charity – I’d much rather be able to make my own choice, but sometimes it doesn’t feel quite as optional as it should.

Anyway, must go and finish off some more crochet – very aware that time is getting short now. I think if I can get the last motif done tonight, and then do the frilly bits tomorrow, I’ve still got time for the cardigan for Big and a hat for Small. I’d love to knit him one, but realistically if I knit it won’t be ready til his birthday 😉

  1. Way to start the day. We live on a busy intersection and could pick stuff up every weekend.

  2. cooo…. Jax is getting teh knitting bug….. you’ll be knitting sox in no time now 😉

  3. I hate people that drop litter, and have frequently moaned at people that usually look very embarrased and pick up their litter. Once in a traffic jam I got out my car and posted the people’s rubbish they’d just chucked out back through their open car windows much the the amusement of the other traffic around us. Another time we were playing in a ford, wading around in the shallow water and a man that was there with his daughter was smoking, and I was there waiting to pounce I just knew what he’d do, yes, he chucked his butt in the river! Needless to say a huge row ensued after that if its not bad enough he’s polluting my childrens’ air he doesn’t need to pollute the river too. Don’t think he believed me when I said yes actually I DO smoke! 🙂
