So what else did we do?

Tuesday we were back in time for swimming. Lessons went OK, although Big was a little miffed to have a substitute teacher. First time in ages for her, although it’s quite common for Small. On the way home Small suddenly needed the loo so we got to call in on Aunt S, which was nice. We arranged to go round the following night as well 🙂

Weds is AFK day. And big round of applause for me, we made it to music on time! I achieved this by not turning on my netbook, by packing the nappies the night before, by not hanging out the second load of washing and by getting the children up half an hour earlier than normal. (Those notes will come in handy when I’m trying to repeat the feat next week 😉 )

After music we went on to WFHelen’s house to picnic before going strawberry picking. And then it was really really hot, so we postponed strawberry picking, and just had a really relaxed lunch in the garden. Everyone else had places to go earlier than we did, so we all packed up at 3 and then Em’s girls really wanted to pick strawberries, so she took Big as well and they went for a quick pick while I brought Small home for a computer fix before taking Big to Brownies and going to see Aunt S.

Thursday was not a successful day. I had loads to do and got nothing much done, mainly because the baby didn’t want to be put down. I did help both kids with some maths (decimals for the boy and multiplication for the girl), and Big and I did some work on our new project. (All will be revealed in due course 😉 )

And Big’s been to and from the library. She’s got into the Princess Diaries books, following a sort of recommendation (someone she knows liked the author on fb 🙂 ). I think she’s on book 4 now. So good that she can just go and get books on her own – she orders them online if necessary and then pops down for them once they are in.

Today has been a much more successful day. I’ve processed 4 loads of washing – at one point the laundry basket and the nappy bucket were empty! Which can’t be said of the washing line 😉 And I’ve fed children lots, and myself every now and then, and then Big and I put the tent up together. In the front garden, because it doesn’t fit in the back, but we managed and it took us 50 minutes to tent stable. That was of course with absolutely no wind, but we did have the baby with us as well – she was happily sitting on a rug watching a blackbird.

And then it was tea time, and then it was swimming club, and then I caught up with my tweeps 😉 and the children went to sleep in the tent.

We’ll gloss over the very unpleasant 30 minutes or so trying to cajole, threaten, beg, plead, bargain, and fool Small into getting over his learned behaviour spider and moth fear and note merely that I was eventually successful and he did brush his teeth in a room with two spiders and a moth. But it was a long half hour during the process.

And now it’s tomorrow and I’ve broken my bargain with myself to go to bed early and I’m going to regret it in the morning when I have to get up to get the kids to their new art class. Hohum. I have a baby to disturb and get ready for bed, but I think I’ll go get the bed ready first.

Just one last sneaky pic of a field 🙂

I am mightily impressed with the tent erecting. I wouldn’t be able to do that one. Fantastic achievement. Well done to you both.

  2. It’s definitely a two person job, and doubt very much Big would have been big enough to assist last year. So pleased we didn’t go for a polycotton now (although they are so gorgeous…sob…)
We were practising for Wicksteed 🙂
