so how did we do today?

sigh.

Does that cover it?

I tried ever so hard, I did. But eventually it came down to, you will sit down and do this. They started on workbooks voluntarily, but I made Big finish a whole page, despite the whining and wailing. She had to write 15 whole letters out you know!

Not sure what happened next, might have been mother popping in for a bit. Looks like I’m nearly there on the wedding outfit, assuming that the wool I’ve ordered arrives in time for me to crochet my shrug – fingers crossed. Oh, and I’ve got to buy shoes. Hm, outlet village in school holidays, deep joy.

After that, Big wanted to make something. So I said that it would be nice to finish one of the many things kicking about that we’ve started and not finished, hypocrite that I am. She turned down the sewing and knitting, but did do some more of the string picture thing, and then I managed to find her maths book, and she struggled through a whole page of sums with the number 0, 1 and 2 in them….sigh. I think it’s because she wants to always write the answer down, and sometimes it wants part of the question iyswim. And while she was doing all of this, Small was mainly being destructive. Every time I turned my back today he was doing something he shouldn’t, including colouring on his face and hands, and then getting upset because his hands were green.

Just as well he couldn’t see his face really!

Finally after maths, Big started doing a competition entry – I’m determined that this one will actually get posted in time. She’s done the portrait bit of it, very nicely at that, I’ll make sure we get a pic before it goes. I was impressed with the level of thought she put into it actually, working out colours for her face and eyes, and what shape they should all be and how it should fit together. She worked hard on it, while I popped in and out and made tea and picked up after Small and so on.

Bedtime this evening we swapped around again, and Tim did whatever with Small while I brushed out Big’s hair and we looked at a couple of books. Daily Life in a Tudor House is going down pretty well, we get to talk about pretty much anything and everything which is rather good. And then I read the first chapter of Elizabeth I and her conquests which seemed to annoy her rather as it kept calling Elizabeth different names like Liz, Lizzy and Bess, and Big is not the most flexible around names, as anyone who has attempted to call her anything other than her full name has no doubt realised.

So the Elizabeth theme is still going strong, will have to see if I can work in a visit or two to an Elizabethan house/ manor or whatever. Think she would enjoy that.

And now it’s time for bed.

  1. well, the last bit of the day sounds good – makes such a difference when one child is taken away, doesn’t it?!

  2. *hugs* for the crappy parts. If you go to the outlet do you fancy popping by? If you’re only going for you, you could always drop kids off and go on your own? Lmk 🙂

  3. You are doing great you know, it will all come together.

  4. sounds not too bad to me, unless you glossed over crap bits – and frankly even if you did there sounds enough good bits to make up for them.

  5. You neglected to mention the people harassing you for your opinion on the 12th draft of their letter to the LEA again– thanks for the help!

  6. Not sure where you live Jax, but Kentwell Hall near Bury St. Edmunds do the most incredible Elizabethan living history recreations. If you google the website, it tells you when they are all planned to be.

ps. I’ve always loved the Elizabethan and Tudor periods and almost got involved in Kentwell – if you go the costuming route I might have some handy resources you can have.

  7. We’re rather more northern that that, but we have handily located friends and relatives in that direction. Think we really ought to look into it. Costuming resources would be great!
