Saturday snippets 7 March 2015

{drinking} a whole variety of different, calming teas. There’s a rather nice Green Tea with lemon and honey from Tetley, some glorious organic chamomile from Napiers Herbs, and a whole marvellous selection from Nothing but tea – I’m loving the Roiboos with a variety of different fruit flavours, particularly Raspberry.

{enjoying} our first Kentwell outing of the year. Open day – chance to catch up with friends, explore the new additions to the grounds (We’ve been Heffalump hunting 🙂 )

{pondering} blog monetization. (Monetisation?) You may have noticed that I have an ad block over to the right, and another down at the bottom of the page. It’s from a network, and I think the underlying ads are supplied by Google. Today I was shown a particularly unsuitable one for my blog, and I’m sorry if you’ve seen anything at any point you don’t like. The thing is, I put a lot of time and effort into this blog, and it would be nice to get a little return. I don’t think this is the right way for me though. I might develop a custom feature of my own, where I have an affiliate introduction there, that might work better. I’d welcome any thoughts people might have. I’m getting next to no sponsored opportunities at the moment, apart from the ones where they want to pay me peanuts for a follow link, and I just don’t really want to go there.

{trying} to draw. Discovering that materials make a massive difference. Love my new Derwent Inktense pencils, and my Reeves water soluble wax pastels. (No, not for review, sadly, actually bought and paid for with my own money. Open to offers 😉 ) Haven’t tried the watercolour pencils yet, that’s one for tomorrow.

{celebrating} Tigerboy’s 3rd birthday. Round about now in each of the other children’s lives I’d have been either trying for another baby or pregnant, it’s very odd to be neither of those things. (I do wonder if that’s been contributing to my low state over the winter.)

{watching} no film tonight – too late back after open day. Instead Tim and I are on the last season of Warehouse 13, and are trying Orange is the new black and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

{wishing} there were easy answers. Or even hard answers that were easy to find. If that makes any sense.

Snapshots.

Big is working on her dress for the 1920s reenactment due in May, steep learning curve here we come. Small is in the process of writing up an article for First News. Smallest took some fabulous pictures at Colchester Zoo last weekend, and we *will* write it up on her blog. (She wants to write about toys too. So that people will send her stuff. Hm.) Tigerboy has achieved three, and he’s doing it with style 🙂

My snapshot. I did a drawing this week that I’m really quite proud of. I know it’s a copy, I know that it’s rough and ready and all the rest of it, but yes, I’m quite proud. My very own Lily and Bear.

  1. I would be extremely proud if I were able to recreate Lily and Bear so well. Copying is an age-old discipline for developing artistic skills, as I’m sure you know. Have not read Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain but spent some time a hundred years with my kids and Mona Brookes book Drawing with Children, which was a lovely experience I highly recommend. Our output that summer still graces my walls.

Yes, we’ve got that one. Started it with the five year old a week or so back actually!
I think copying is very underrated, and I’m enjoying learning by doing.

  2. Love the picture and no way Tiger boy can’t be 3. Xx
