{watching} Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return (Amazon). Arrived for review this morning, and was absolutely perfect for a trimmed down #familyfilmnight with just the younger two. And I enjoyed it, which was a bonus, although a film featuring Sir Patrick Stewart as a tree is always going to stand a chance with me 😉

Unlike the Return to Oz film that I remember seeing as a child, this sequel has just the right amount of quirk and surrealness, without being overly scary. And like I said, Sir Patrick Stewart. Actually, the cast is pretty awesome, and it does make a difference, lifting what could be just yet another cartoon a level. The songs feel a bit shoe horned in, but with numbers from people like Bryan Adams, (yes, yes, I’m soft rock girl) that’s not too onerous. All in all, a very easy way to spend an evening.

{reading} half of a whole bunch of things. Seem to have slightly lost my reading mojo. It’ll be back.

{enjoying} the late summer sun. Early autumn sun? Whichever, it was hot today, but the shadows were long by just after 2. Won’t be long til the clocks change, and I spend several weeks trying to reorient myself. So love this time of year.

{missing} Tim and the bigger ones. And Kentwell. Lovely pic shared on twitter of Small as a page. Hope the weather stays kind for them.

{making} tissue paper dyed nature bags. From a Toucan Box that I got on a trial ages and ages ago, and set to one side for the day I needed an all in one craft. Today was that day. Great to have a box with everything in – although I had to grab an extra bag given I’ve got two children 😉 Really easy and effective craft too – foil on tray, cut up tissue paper, wet it down, pat bag on, turn over. Tips include not letting your two year put so much water on that they make the paper disintegrate, and do push down on the bag to get good colour transfer. Tomorrow we’ll be stencilling on them too.

{spotting} season changes. Along with the bag there were a set of bingo type cards, one for each season. So we took the Summer and Autumn ones outside to see what signs we could see of each season in the garden. Turns out that it’s more Summer than Autumn in our garden – I can cope with that. We also got out The Gruffalo Nature Trail: A Gruffalo Explorer Sticker Book (Gruffalo Sticker Activity Book) book that the lovely #weloveforests people sent. I am desperate to get back to our forest at Thetford, but while I can’t drive, it’s kind of difficult. As the forthcoming Gruffalo Child trails will run through til February next year, I’m hoping that we might still make it. Although for the time being, we’re going to go to our local wood and explore just using the book, which will have to do for now.

Snapshots

I think I forgot to mention last week Big’s excellent digital drawing on the 3DS. Still trying to figure out how to get the video off to share, but it’s awesome. Small has been into digital graphics this week as well, working on some minecraft related stuff. Smallest and Tigerboy are loving having access to the TV and computer without having to take turns but I think the best part of the day was still making mess 😉

And me? I’ve begun to work through my resistance to routines, schedules, and decluttering. Losing Tim’s hat really wound me up, not realising it was lost until a couple hours before they needed to go, and leaving the cloaks until the night before? Stupid. I know that some things are more difficult for me, and now at least I know why that is. But I also know that I don’t have to do things the way everybody else does them, so it’s up to me to work out the ways that work for me. Which feels like a quite liberating realisation.

Still overloaded myself today and ended up sitting on the bed for a couple of hours staring at the heaps, but hey, it’s going to take a little while to overcome 43 years of programming, right?

If you’d like to share your snippets, I’d love to have them.
