Saturday Snippets 13 September 2014

{counting} 10k steps. First time I’ve worn my fitbug all day in ages, and cruised through the 10k. Running my mile this morning helped. (In 09.47, which is a pretty good place to be starting from for my aim of running a 10k in under an hour.)

{drawing} eyes. Feeling quite pleased with my drawing of eyes. (You can find snaps of my drawing on instagram.) And feeling really really cross with the art teacher who failed me at school, as part of a campaign against the music department. (Art was viewed as a luxury. So you could have your instrument lesson during her art lesson, and I did. So I only had half a double period to do the art exam, and instead of making alternative arrangements, she just failed me. It’s taken me very nearly 30 years to try drawing again.)

{watching} Red. Lots of explosions, actions shots, fun one liners and a bit of romance. Very cross about them killing off Joe though. Fun #familyfilmnight choice for slightly older children. Quite a high body count though.

{enjoying} the last burst of summer, with an afternoon on the beach. Sandcastles and general frolicking, for the younger two anyway, while the older two went off with Tim to explore churches on the heritage open day.

{reading} John Scalzi Lock In. Which Tim had got from the library for himself, and was quite surprised when I practically wrenched it out of his hands. I’d read the prequel free online, and really wanted to read the actual book, although it hadn’t occurred to me to order it from the library. Doh. Anyway, got it now.

Snapshots

Big is going from strength to strength with her drawing. Small has started a new website, and this week dived into the deep end of wordpress theming. (I don’t know that he’s ready for it to be unveiled so I won’t link yet.) Smallest baked cinnamon hearts for the family – really lovely easy recipe, and she was so pleased with herself. Hard to know what to pick out with Tigerboy at the moment. His language is still exploding, we’ve got sentences, polysyllabic words, recognition of self “me did it! Yeah!” and he even calls himself by name now and then.

Me.

I took my first selfie for my take a picture every month for my 101 things list. And I’ve been drawing. Already falling behind on the 1000 cranes, but hey, this is my list to do as I please, and what I’m not going to do is stress over it. 🙂
