I don’t hold with these mamby-pamby, new-fangled mobile phone ringtones. Young people these days don’t even know what a proper phone should sound like.

You know, I can remember when people didn’t have mobile phones. It was better back then, someone sent you a message and once you had read it, you could eat the pigeon.

I recently read an article “Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants– A New Way To Look At Ourselves and Our Kids”, which I thought was fatuous. How would he class someone who makes their own ring tone (Googles for and downloads source files, gets audio editor software, mixes the sound file, bluetooths it to their handset), but wants the sound to be the same as phones he remembers from forty+ years ago?

I don’t remember phones sounding like that – well not in real life anyway – only as sound effects on The Archers.

ROFL – just played the mp3, and Ernest asked, “What’s that?” I said it was a phone ringing noise, and he said, “Oh yeah, one of those with the numbers that spin round, not like ones *we* have.”
I miss those phones, I might get one.

my parents phone even had a party line button. it def sounded like that [of course they had a new one some years ago!]
chris’s parents only lost their phone like that on moving last year. Chris’s niece couldn’t work out how to use it!!!!

That reminds me of my kids and the Portico kids crowding round the Hama Bead Design programme and trying to work out “what that funny H thing is” – it was a floppy disc icon, they’d never seen the like of it!

I’ve been looking for one this week! I like them so much 🙂
My ring tone on my phone is Pea shouting ‘whose is that phone ringing it’s annoying’, LOL! Makes me laugh all the time.

Yep. that’s what they sounded like, you’re just showing your age Stella. Parenst still ahve the phone Helen, just don’t use it. Problem is once you use it you remember how annoying it was to misdail the last digit of a number, to have to redial anumber for the tenth time etc……
Have to say, I find it rather bizarre that people will pay more for for a ringtone, that for a whole track of music from itunes or where ever. Well I think it’s bizzare that they will pay at all, but then that’s teenagers for you

I’m not so young! I do remember when phone numbers were shorter. The first house I lived in as a small child had the phone number 326.

Thanks for this. I’ve just gotten myself a new phone (not bad for Â£15) .. and I can finally use MP3s for ringtones.

I got very fed up with Virgin. I bought a Nokia 6230i because it had an email client, and only after I had signed up did I find out that Virgin didn’t support email. I think they are going to introduce it, but I thought it was silly, since T-Mobile, who are their carrier, do offer it – so it is there, they just can’t be bothered. I must say, the phone service was fine with them.
So are you using the fogey phone ring then?
