Quiet weekend

Coped with my day in charge on Friday – last hour was the toughest when we couldn’t find the padlock or keys to lock up the sheds! Got home in time for curry and cake with Lily and her bloke, late celebration of her birthday. Couldn’t stay the pace though and keeled into bed around midnight leaving the rest of them to polish off the third bottle of wine without me.

Then just couldn’t seem to get myself going yesterday morning – culminating in carefully weighing and measuring everything into the breadmaker and then realising I’d forgotten to put in the dough hook 🙁 I had managed to do the clearing up after the night before, but after that, I retired upstairs with a book, The Companions (Gollancz S.F.) and read until I pretty much passed out and then slept the rest of the afternoon. Which seemed like a great idea at the time, but not so great when I found myself wide awake at unearthly hours this morning. Still I’ve been doing that anyway, even without sleeping most of the previous day away, so I’m not sure that the sleep had that much effect.

Today I did more breadbaking, shopping and then we went over to J’s again, took all kids (including K’s fiance’s sons currently down from Scotland on three week visit) up to the rec and we all played for an hour. That included Tim in the big swing and the swirly cereal bowl roundabout, while I stuck with the ordinary swing. Big and Small wailed, bickered but did play as well, and then we went back for two sittings of dinner, interspersed with Wimbledon final. Dashed home when rain stopped play so in time to see the bitter end, slightly disappointed as I really wanted Federer to get his sixth title, be plenty of time for Nadal yet.

Mood slightly depressed again by a phone call arranging for the next family gathering, this time to collect and deal with the ashes – I have no idea what has been planned, but at least I’ve been called.

Think I might have another cup of tea and go to bed now.
