Preparing for Mumsnet Blogfest

mumsnet

As regular readers will know, I’ve attended Mumsnet Blogfest for the last two years to talk about the technical side of blogging – hosting, platforms, domain names, BACKUPS, that sort of thing.

I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be attending again this year, as part of the round table discussion Techie tips and tricks. As ever, I’ve got my twitter list on the go, so if you’re going, tweet me so I can get you added, and follow so that you can meet up with people, virtually speaking, before the day. (Anyone know if we’re bumping badges again this year? That was fun. Or will there be cocktails?)

I *think* I’ve got just enough time to order some new MOO mini cards. (I should still have some. I have no idea where they are. If I order some new ones, they can call the other ones out of hiding.) Or should I go for full size cards this year? I do love my mini cards though, they have my blog header on, and I think they’re really pretty.

What else?

Oh yes, I’ll be hoiking my netbook around in my Trabasack Max. I do have the smaller Mini as well, but I find for a full day out, the Max allows room for the netbook and its charger, a notepad, whatever I’m reading at the time, and things like the phone charger and so on. With the tray it doesn’t matter if I get a table seat on the train as I can work with the bag on my knee, and while it’s heavier than a rucksack, I like knowing that there’s protection built in for the netbook as well. (Arriving at a tips and tricks roundtable without a functioning netbook would be a little stressful. I like to be able to bring items up on screen, make notes and so on as I’m going.)

(If anyone would like to loan me some swanky tech to try out for the conference, I’m very happy to consider that too 😉 )

I probably need to think about clothes.

It’s not the done thing to wear the same thing two years running is it? Shame, I like the shirt I bought for last year. Fair play on the jeans, *someone* got red paint on them this week at communication group, so they probably aren’t up for a smart day out any more.

So you can recognise me, this is me. Although I’ve got lenses in there, and I might be wearing glasses. But that’ll do for now.

Is there anything else I should add? Oh yes. If there’s anything techie you’d particularly like to ask me that might require any prep (like looking at your blog for example), do feel free to leave a comment or drop me a tweet (@liveotherwise). And don’t forget if you’re blogging about it to pop your post in the linky.

  1. Hopefully actually chat with you this time! I’m looking forward to it. Do need to order my cards actually!

    1. I think there’s still time 🙂 yes, would be nice to chat

  2. Hi Jax. We are coming to the techie round table – not sure we have much to contribute, but we are very keen to learn! We were supposed to have a blog clinic slot with you last year as we had (and still have) a lot of WordPress questions. We missed it as I stupidly wrote the wrong time down. Can we be cheeky and ask if it’s possible to have 5 minutes of your time tomorrow? No worries if you’re too busy – just thought we’d ask. Looking forward to it anyway – hope you have a good day. Helen (and Elizabeth)

    1. Absolutely! Will look forward to seeing you 🙂

  3. I can’t wait to meet you Jax. I’m playing the sessions by ear as turning up around lunchtime and doing a talk in the afternoon before heading home to Cornwall. I really need your techie tips more than anything else though.
Thank you for organising the list and helping us all.

    1. Come find me – I’d love to chat. I should point out that I’m dire with names and faces, so please don’t be surprised if I don’t recognise you!
