Politics in the age of facebook.

The election has been announced. Before we get into the electioneering proper the washup has to take place. The washup is one of the least democratic activities in the whole undemocratic process we call government.*

The CSF Bill that we have been campaigning against could be part of the washup. It’s not high profile enough for 38 Degrees to be jumping up and down about – they are lobbying against the Digital Economy bill, which tbh, looks quite bad too. So if we don’t want the CSF Bill to go through, in any part, it’s up to us.

This morning I have become a (facebook) fan of Nick Clegg so that I could write on his wall. I’ve done the same to David Cameron. I’ve emailed Michael Gove, and I’ve changed my facebook status to explain what I’m up to.

I’m following the PPC I’ve found on twitter, when any of them come round I will be educating them on home education and civil liberties. I will also be asking their opinions on democracy, and whether they think it would be a good idea for us to have one.

There is no excuse for such a tiny minority of ppl to sit in their ivory tower and ruin our lives – they are accessible, we are accessible. There are so many ways to communicate now, email, facebook, twitter, phone, tv channels watching their every move. It is time that the politicians crawled out of the dark ages and realised we are watching them and we are not going to go away. This is our time to change what they are doing to us. Don’t let them get away with it.

*Please don’t tell me this is a democracy. This majority government was returned by 30% of the electorate – it was very difficult to explain to my 10 year old without bias just why I think that is so wrong. And then they wade around making up statistics to justify draconian initiatives against minority sectors of the population. To my shame, I don’t know what else they’ve done to other sectors I’m not a part of, but no more. I am watching them now.
