Parties aren’t my favourite way to spend time. But an invitation from a local home ed family was something I couldn’t pass up, given how well the children get along. And the party was being held at a village hall that has a fantastic playground right outside, so I knew that Tigerboy in particular would have a fabulous time.
I wasn’t wrong. He crawled through tunnels, scrambled up and down hills, found the biggest swing he’d ever seen and stayed on it for ages and ages, rocked on a hen, and there was a sandpit.
You’d think that a child who goes to the beach regularly wouldn’t be bothered by a sandpit. You’d be completely wrong. We were back up in the hall for a while, playing with the balloons, when he suddenly spotted a spade, grabbed it and high tailed it out of the building. One of the other mothers followed him while I scooped up Smallest – I wasn’t too worried, I knew where he was going. And sure enough he was running down the hill to the sandpit, spade in his hand, ready to build a sandcastle.
The sand was too dry, and they didn’t have a spade, so the sandcastle didn’t really happen, but he was so happy anyway.
And I got to take pictures, which I can’t put online as my phone (currently in the bedroom) hasn’t backed them up to google for some bizarre reason, so I can’t download, resize and insert. I also drew pictures, which I haven’t yet photographed, but if I had would be similarly inaccessible.
