One of those calls.

Took Small to school this morning because he got himself up and dressed and insisted he wanted to go. He didn’t have a temperature and he ate breakfast in the car as usual. Apparently he was then fine until 11.30 when he declared himself tired. They put him a mat out, he lay down, and he slept. Then he slept some more. Then he slept a little longer. I can imagine that by the time it got to 14.00 they were getting kind of twitchy – he’d roused a couple of times but couldn’t be persuaded to get up and eat or drink, so they called me.

I love that kind of call. This one was improved hugely by whoever had answered the call struggling to transfer it to my extension, after he’d said “it’s someone called K, from a school or somewhere?” You stop being a whatever-it-is that pays the mortgage, and you turn straight into neurotic mother. I managed to log off the various customer sites I was on, but that was it, and then I belted out of there and straight over to school.

Small was curled up on a mat in the corner, sleeping peacefully. He didn’t have a temperature, and yes, he often sleeps like that, tied up in a knot. I sat down next to him and checked how warm he was, and he woke up and talked to me. And that was that, I gathered them together and brought them home.

Worked from home the rest of the afternoon while they watched Thunderbirds: Volume 1 [1965]. Apparently it’s really good, nearly as good as WORZEL GUMMIDGE – ALL OF SERIES ONE [2002]. Gotta love dvd rentals.

So there’s another day. The oven is coming into land just as the moment – this may mean it’s warm enough to cook pizza.

  1. glad nothing wrong. bit of a paranoid myself

  2. Funny isn’t it how even the most rational, sensible mums out there can flip out into out and out panic at the mention of their child being not well somewhere other than by their side.
Hope he’s done that child thing of sleeping himself better.

    How is he today?

  4. What are you saying T-B? Are you trying to imply that Jax is rational and sensible?
Sarah, the day was salvaged when I suggested watching Thunderbirds. Crying at being left behind stopped, joy reigned. He loves it.
