New kid on the block

went with Tim to pick the kids up tonight, and was surprised to see Big playing with an unfamiliar boy. Apparently he started last week, is nearly 8, and they’ve really hit it off. She’s no longer the oldest, and she’s not the only one home educated then flexi schooled.

I’m thrilled – and really hoping that this will help to cheer her up. I’ve ordered The Story of the World – Ancient Times V 1 as well, in the hope that if we do something steady on her days not at school it might help to give her some structure. Small is pottering along quite happily with his drawing and writing – his report from school (this year I actually understand most of it!) implies that he’s coming along fine. Not that that’s much of a concept in montessori, there isn’t any “should do at this age” kind of concept. But he’s developing and learning new stuff and that’s about as good as it gets really.

They had a lovely night out with Ailsa and Martin last night – taken out to a chinese restaurant, complete with a revolving table. Then they bought me flowers as well – yellow, as Big said I like yellow.

Right, we stopped off in hobbycraft to buy some more grey wool, so I’m going to see if I can figure out a crochet pattern for chain mail. I may be some time.
