I’ve just updated the blurb on the ring hub page to read:

A warm welcome to the Early Years HE blog ring, a ring linking blogs of home educating families with a strong connection to the UK, (usually members of the Early years HE yahoo group). As we’ve been running for quite some time now, several of our members have grown out of early years, but the blogring has grown with them (barring the name 🙂 ) I hope you enjoy your journey around the ring.

following someone applying to join who said she didn’t know that the ring was for homeschooling (sic) families. I responded that it is, although we do also welcome families who flexi-school, and turned down her application. She does have a fascinating blog though, so if any of you wish to add it to your sage or favourites, you can find it over at LittleMummy.com

So yet another debate arises about the nature of the ring. To my mind it exists to help build a community – the nature of home education is that the families can be far removed from each other and therefore the ring is another way to build bridges. As such it doesn’t demand a certain amount of educational input per post (just as well round here 😉 ) but it does imply that the family will be involved in home education in some way or another. Hope that clarifies matters for anyone happening to drop in. Once this post gets pushed down a bit, I’ll transform it into a page, and link it from the ring hub too.

  1. when you make it a page, you will need to add a welcoming bit to the beginning and miss out the middle paragraph!
I would say this is for those that are planning to homeeducate, but children below compulsary ed age, those that do home-ed, in all its various forms for all the various reasons. but yes, uilding up a community the prime aima.
still think we should have badges about what we think we do – rofl!!!

  2. hm, maybe I’ll write a new page…
badges doesn’t sound like such a bad idea.

  3. Sarah, Dino and Mimi avatar
    Sarah, Dino and Mimi

    Can I have “Multitasking madwoman”?

  4. well, I would have eclectic education [ie a bit of what I fancy!], child led, sonlight, book people [rofl!]
also any badges I fancied from anyone else!!

  5. I like the idea that it’s for those intending to HE as well as those HEing already…particularly considering I’ve been on the ring for about 2 years now and we’re still not officially HEing as Flopsy still isn’t of compulsory school age!
I also think it’s important that it is just HEors and those living an HE lifestyle as not only is it a link for those on the ring but also a fantastic resource for anyone thinking of HEing to read what life for HE families is like 🙂

  6. something horrible has happened to the pages. None of the blogs are loading up.

  7. Looks fine to me? Are you having network problems?

  8. The pages are blank until I run the mouse down over the screen and the blogs titles then appear. Don’t seem to be having problems anywhere else and can access blogs no problem it just seems to be the EYHE menu pages.

  9. DIY is probably about right. 🙂
Michelle, I am guessing you are using Internet Explorer, it has a weird bug which can do something like what you describe. Can you tell me which version you are using, as I can’t see a problem myself.

  10. On this pc we’re using Internet Explorer 7, specifically 7.0.5730.11
It’s worked fine on here until now (although I’ve not been here for 4 days) so we don’t have any more ideas and the set up here has not been touched whilst I’ve been away.
The downstairs pc is using vista with a slightly later build and the menu loads up fine there so it is something up with this pc.
I am cursed with computers. Marcus describes me as “She who brings on the Blue Screen of Death”. He thinks something at your end has changed?

  11. If it is the bug I have seen before, it is unpredictable, it affects pages which are correctly coded and is quite hard to fix (particularly when you can’t see it). I will take a look but….

  12. Hmm, you know, I could have sworn I told her it was a Home Ed blog ring…. Little Mummy is nice though (even if she does want to be a teacher 😉 )

  13. It’s back! But very “clunky” if that makes sense. It used to load seamlessly but seems to now load in chunks – very quickly but not instantaneously. Did you do anything or has my pc partially debugged itself?

  14. Not had chance to do anything. It is a very weird bug.

  15. Ah- no I’ve lied. Went into a blog and came back to ring hub and it’s doing it again.
Ne’er mind. I’ll add it to my list of oddities that seem to affect only me.
