Netflix streamteam – saving money in the run up to Christmas

Netflix_StreamTeam_ExplorationsI’m pleased to announce we’ve joined the Netflix stream team, meaning once a month or thereabouts, I’ll be telling you all about the delights of Netflix.

To be honest, I don’t actually know how we managed without it. Since the subscription started, Big has been mainlining boxsets like there’s no tomorrow. She’s a bit sad that the UK site doesn’t include Gilmore Girls, or Supernatural, but she’s made up for it by watching Chuck back to back. Which has got Tim back into it too 😉 (I can’t say as I’m particularly sad there’s no Supernatural. It doesn’t sound like my kind of thing at all to be honest.)

The younger children have been thrilled with the cartoon offerings – it turns out that while Tigerboy can’t read (I assume he can’t read, anyway!) he can navigate the netflix interface in the media centre browser and set off Team Umizoomi. (Oops.) That’s of course if Small isn’t already watching Ben 10 on there 😉 And we’ve very much enjoyed adding the netflix catalog to our family film night sessions on a Saturday evening. I see that Catching Fire is available – as I missed that at the cinema, I’m looking forward to getting the chance to see it. Not one for the younger ones though.)

Starting at £5.99 a month it does seem to be extraordinarily good value for money, and a lot cheaper than renting DVDs title by title if there was anywhere left that did that. And of course we make our own popcorn, which comes from the coop at £1.25 a bag, making enough for 6 people for two nights. I’ve also been careful to follow NewonNetflixUK fan account as well as NetflixUK themselves. I hear tell that the new exclusive series Marco Polo is rather good, from a friend who was at the New York premiere 😉

I’m led to believe there may well be some titles available that I’ll enjoy in the box set area, but as of yet I haven’t had a look in. Not to worry, I’m sure that at some point that will change. Or maybe I’ll just give up and watch alongside Big in her quest to catch up on all slightly nerdy American TV that she possibly can. Anything you’d recommend that I get started with?
