Small has taken off on mathletics recently. He achieved 5300 points last week, although that only took 3 hours. and we worked through his fear of subtraction starting last Tues evening at swimming. He’s powered through 48 out of 66 gold bars in 4 weeks, with another 2 weeks of this work rate he should finish year 3 maths 😯
He is hit and miss about his approach – he hadn’t realised that there is a support area and so was deriving things by a trial and error approach to unknowns. He also didn’t think of asking me (do I have a :wall: icon atm?). So now I watch more carefully and anything that comes up on his report lower than 90% I ask him about, to check he does actually know what he’s doing. Found him at one point guessing the meanings of the words acute and obtuse wrt angles just to prove my point 😆
He doesn’t like the live area – doesn’t have the same competitive streak that Big does – but goes through the same things over and over otherwise and his grasp of mental arithmetic is coming on nicely. All in all, it’s working well for him atm
