Come on, admit it, which of you could cope without your kettle? No tea/ coffee/ other warm drink laced with caffeine? Or even warm drink without it? No yuppatea? No coffee black?

Every now and then we’ve had kettle traumas. But we’ve come through them. There have even been times when I’ve had to make do with a camping kettle, but now I think we’ve got it sussed. We’re sticking with Russell Hobbs. Even though one of them gave up the ghost the other night. You just can’t win.

But a nice cup of tea will make you feel better when you lose. Stick the kettle on, would you?

    I love my kettle! It’s red and very pretty! I have a back-up kettle for the gas stove in case anything goes wrong with the electric kettle!

    Last year I would have been in full agreement. But since Jan I have been trying to lose weight, so after much agonising I decided to try and cut down on my sugar intake – I am renowned for having an excessive amount, I like mine hot, weak, milky and sweet.
    I managed to halve my sugar intake, but no longer enjoy tea and have gone from at least three cups a day (my first approach was to ration tea drinking) down to just one and to be quite honest I could live without that one.
    So I have put it back up, and somehow seem to have gone off tea – maybe my brain trying to keep me on track.
    Also, having had quite a few kettles, not all kettles are created equally. I hated our last kettle so much that I was seriously considering sabotage, but in the end it broke, so we have a lovely new one that flashes different colours. Tip – don’t buy kettles that filter water, they are heavy and horrible.

    I think I agree, I love the fun gadgets but I could not live without my kettle. Or, more accuately, no-one could live with me if I didn’t have my kettle 🙂

    Oh! That did surprise me, but you’re right, it’s a great gadget and one that we take for granted. Nothing like a good cuppa. Milk & sugar?

    The boiling function is rather too easily replaced with a saucepan, or stove top kettle though (do like out (expensive) Magimix kettle though.
    But teapot, now that is much more esential 😉

    Actually, I never thought of my kettle but you’re so right. Where would I be without my first cuppa of the day lol.

    I never realised how very British kettles are until I worked on the Continent. There a cup of tea is made by being presented with hot water from the coffee maker and a tea bag (usually stupid, feeble, Lipton’s of London). The result is a most unpleasant and unsatisfying drink indeed. So let’s all pay homage to the kettle!
